I just had the worst scare about an hour ago.

I was typing, and I went to copy/paste something, and all of a sudden my text blew up in size. I wigged out, especially when I got the message that OpenOffice had crashed. Fortunately, the story was recovered, and I'd saved just before typing my last sentence anyway, but the formatting was still all messed up.

I panicked and kept trying to fix it, and cursed and swore at the computer until my mother told me to either cut it out or stop writing for the day and come back to it later. Then she tried to fix it, and couldn't. And even though it was only a cosmetic thing and I could have continued typing, it was driving me up the wall. I mean, the text was huge!

After about 30 minutes of utter panic, I realized somehow I'd accidentally zoomed it in about 600%. -_-;

That's....actually terrifying, even though it's kind of hilarious too. :P Crashed programs always just give you that moment of heart-stop, don't they?

Thankfully I've had some practice at keeping a lot of words safe, over the summer since I was writing two University dissertations (and it's a good Uni, too, so they wouldn't let me have a decent grade without multiple ruthless rewrites). 21,000 words. This is kind of a walk in the park comparatively - less time, but I'm not being graded or researching!

Gonna go multiple save my words so far up right now - thankyou for reminding me to do so! (Heh, writing mainly in Wordpad, though, and it does basically nothing except be a blank writing space, so formatting issues physically can't be an issue for it!)

OMG That is scary!!!!

I had one the other day where I'd written an entire chapter and for some reason the power to my PC just died. I was just staring at the bloody thing, mouth open in horror thinking did I save? DID I SAVE?!

Thankfully Open does have recovery, and I had saved!!!

I did the exact same thing the other day - and the exact same thing happened to me. I was ready to throw my laptop in a fit of rage when Open Office shut down. It was not one of my better moments. lol

What a nightmare!! I've lost work before and it is so emotionally painful to know you did so much work and then it's gone. It's very lucky you got it back.
