It's the evening of the 7th here in Chicagoland, but some folks are already hard at work on day 8, so I'll use that to justify starting this now.
This is a really tough year. Lots of people are struggling with not just the writing but with Real Life Issues as well. Serge and Plot Bunny Stew can only take you so far...
Your NaNo friends are here for you!

Not starting the second week on a good note. Just barely hanging on. And the constant stress and continual crises I have to deal with are exhausting me to the point where I can't think.

Hang in there, Zookeeper!
I've dodged getting tangled in my obligations for last week and just have three more day's worth and then I'll be on easy street and can spend most of every day writing. I got my head a little further above water yesterday and hope to add to that today so Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday don't hurt me too bad. I want to be at my 50,000 by Wednesday the 25th so I don't have to worry about word counts and winning that busy Thanksgiving weekend.

It has been a bit tough to concentrate on Nanowrimo!
Ordinary life is just in the way and too busy.
I'm using a short couple hours today to boost my story along.
However I seem to have lost track of the plot.
I'm sure it will come along once I get going again.

Had a wonderful meeting this afternoon with a young NaNoWrimo student from the States/Britain who is visting Holland this week. She is writing about the Dutch Revolt and the Sea Beggars in particular. Nothing like seeing it for yourself, and I hope she enjoyed it. Didn't write much today, but who cares? Such meetings are important. It wouldn't have happened if NaNoWriMo wasn't there.

I went to a write-in this afternoon. Not many folks, possibly because it was 70 degrees (F) outside and for Chicago in November that's not to be missed! (I took a long walk this morning so I wouldn't feel too bad being inside later.) There was a good balance of age-groups, too. I write by hand away from home because I only have my desktop computer. After I'd typed in what I had written there, adding in details as I went, I was only 50 words shy of 15K ! So I had to keep going ... I'm glad for the cushion because I'll be busy on Wednesday after work and probably won't write anything that day.
Hang in there, Zoo. It'll come together for you. It has before!
You, too, Miramar. Keep at it.
Best of luck, everybody.

HI... MIddle aged newbie and proud of it!
I have been to two write-ins and each of them only had three people. But they do help me. Mondays are the days I can "catch up" at a quiet local write in: I am hoping to be at my 12,500 goal by tomorrow.
It certainly is a strange and scary year. Alas, my novel is set in the midst of the mortgage crisis -- which brought us into this mess -- hence the title. ( I am excited about my new banner. )
Take care, and thanks for helping motivate me into Week 2

Write-ins are a great way to go. When they're not available, I allow 15 minutes in the forums before writing, and I always try to post at least one reply, partly because that's what the forums are for, and partly to get the fingers back in the habit of moving in response to the internally-spoken word.
This is my 4th year, and I'm glad to be ahead of the numbers so far. My goal is 2000 wds/day, and it's gone well despite a stretch of boring myself silly with my characters' refusal to DO something. But I'm getting back at them today. I'm about to push one of my main characters to the edge to see if he'll survive. I think he will, but I'm not sure yet. I never push them into something I know they can get out of beforehand.
Keep at it -- it gets even better as the month goes on!

Just finished chapters 8 and 9 this morning. I'm a good deal ahead of the game right now which is where I like to keep myself. I try to get my writing completed early in the morning because I have college classes later in the day. I'm also struggling with learning algebra and believe me -- I'd rather be writing sentences than graphing equations any day of the week. So right now it's a whole lot easier to put off the math and keep on writing.
Still I have a major math exam in a little over a week and must pass it so I can't be slacking too much.
Best of luck to everyone and keep up the extraordinary work.
