[STICKY] Introductions!

Only the MLs have to share our real names, so don't feel compelled to do so, but at least give us something to refer to you by! My name is Edeyn -- that's pronounced just like the Garden of Note in many religions -- Edeyn Hannah Blackeney. I'm in Port Huron, and as a consequence, any write-ins I happen to host will be in that area. The other MLs will probably do the same. My username is pronounceable, it's just odd. Delayra: deh-LAIR-ah ... rhymes with Sarah!

I am going to spend the next couple of weeks getting write-in locations in this area, and am planning a kickoff party. :) More info on that when I have a concrete date/time/location.

Last year I was an ML in Kansas City, and the year before in Missouri :: Elsewhere. I've been in a different Home Region EVERY SINGLE year I've done NaNo:

2004 - Detroit
2005 - Charleston, SC
2006 - MO :: Elsewhere
2007 - KCMO / KCKS

I plan on setting up some Word Wars, and there will be head-to-heads and Word Races at write-ins, as well as ways to encourage breaking of the dreaded Writer's Blocks!

Just because you're not in PH, or the area of one of the MLs doesn't mean you can't hold your own Write-Ins -- post an announcement here with the date and time so that if there happens to be anyone nearby enough to meet up and write, they can be aware of when you plan to be there.

NaNo isn't supposed to be all work and no play -- it's supposed to be fun, too!

Learning my limits...and they are greater than I ever imagined. 50K boom, done in less than thirty days (because I couldn't write every day). I'm impressed with me...I'm impressed with you.

Folks, I'm so excited -- I'm so close! But I'm nervous that I'm nearing a stopping point. Would anyone be up for one more, last-ditch, do or die write in to get a few more of us into the winner's circle? I was thinking Water Street Coffee Joint -- the one on Oakland -- either Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Or, since our write-ins have been pretty informal so far, maybe both!

Word Wars?

Do we want to pit ourselves against any other regions in a Regional Word War? Think we as a whole can do better than just Detroit? I personally think Word Wars are a fun way to help folks focus on word count.

Port Huron Area Write-Ins!

Looks like we'll be at:

the Raven on Sunday afternoon/evening in November -- I'll be there from 4pm to 8pm at least -- at the Raven in downtown Port Huron, upstairs. There is wifi and power outlets -- and they have wonderful caffeinated beverages :D - we can stay longer, but they close at 10pm on Sunday nights.

the Literarium on Thursday afternoon/evening in November -- I'll be there from 4pm to 8pm -- and they give us free coffee! They close at 8pm, so we'll be wrapping up about 10 minutes before 8 when we meet there. No wifi, but there are outlets for plugging in the laptops.

NanoWrimo Meet-up Sign

I have a wonderful idea to show that we are part of the NanoWrimo group. How about we all bring writing notebooks/paper pads and pencils. Rarely are those ever seen at a coffee shop, but the can be very important for writing out stories. Better yet, we all probably have them. It also means we have something to write down notes, numbers, ideas on, for those who use laptops.

I repeat my offer of babysitting at the meeting spot.

As for description, I appear to be a kid, about twelve. I am probably going to be the youngest looking person in the place, unless my red-headed daughter is with me, or there is a baby or something equally young. Kids at my daughter's elementary school look older than me and that is an unfortunately sad, but very common observation. I will hate my genes until I am forty.

Alright, here's the deal. I'm writing way more than I thought I'd be able to do each day this year. But in the immortal words of S. Baldrick, "I have a cunning Plan..."

Okay. I don't need help getting to 50K, obviously... when I started on the 1st, my goal for the month was 500K. Last year I did 358K and I just KNEW I could do a half million. I was excited. I started writing. I was spurred on by the other NOA Members (Nanowrimo Overachievers Anonymous) and the friendly competition that makes NaNo great.

Now, this is my fifth year in NaNo, and I have never been able to afford to donate a cent. :(

So, in that way, I suck. Well, a friend (or three) of mine saw my wordcount today (307,062 as of this posting), and told me I should go for a Million. Whoa. 7 digits? EEK!

But I'm on track for it. I could do it, if I were able to push the entire month the way I've pushed the first week. I'm writing an episodic format so that I won't "run out" of things to write about -- I've already got 15 adventures as it stands today!

Food for thought.

Then another friend suggested it. Then another. Then I asked one of the other NOAs... Alright, sure, I'll go for it! Won't hurt to try, right?

Then... my guilt at not having donated reared its head.

And my cunning plan formed. ONE MILLION words! I should get some sponsors! Get them to donate for WHEN my novel hits the magic 7th figure!

I could challenge myself as NEVER before and get some money for NaNo, too!

But... how do I do that? I have no idea how to gather such sponsors... so... I'm asking for help! Ideas? Guidance? Please?

I'm posting this in several forums to get some spread, so please, PM me the answers instead of just replying. There's no way I'd be able to remember everywhere I posted without a search function.

Baby Sitting Offer!

I have a 6 year old who I have to watch anyway. I would be delighted to babysit the darlings allowing people to write. I can take up to 15 kids, due to family which will probably come with me.

I have an ulterior motive, I must admit: I am heavily utilizing kids in my novel and would love some subjects besides my daughter to help create realistic characters. Please help me by letting me help you!
