Anyone closer to Lincoln?

I'm glad to see there are so many NaNoers in Omaha, but I was wondering if there were any of us closer to the Lincoln area. I'm about a half an hour west of Lincoln, and was hoping there might be another kick-off party going on there? I have one friend that's doing this madness with me, and I would rather not have to drive an hour and half to get back to school in the wee morning hours.

I'm a transplant, by the way. A Colorado native.... don't kill me just because I like the Buffs! (Actually, I don't care that much, I just have quite a few friends who do.)

HI, there. I'm doing the NaNoWriMo challenge for the fourth time this year. I'm still working on finishing the novel I started last year on NaNoWriMo, but we won't get into that. I tried to do NaNoFiMo last year but it didn't work out for me. I'm interested in getting a group together somewhere near here. Lincoln and Omaha are 100 mile drives for me. Is anyone else out there near Falls City, Auburn or Pawnee City? Even Nebraska City, that's only 50 miles for me. I don't like driving when it's snowy out, or icy, but in good weather I can go as far as Nebraska City easily. Give me a shout if you're interested in forming a support noveling group. :-)

MASCOTS

I have noticed the last couple of years that many of the regional Wrimo groups have mascots. In some forums they arwe asking everyone to post their mascot. I am opening up the floor for suggestions on our own mascot and offerring an idea of my own.
At one time I was going to use an owl for a writing group, but never ended up doing much with it, so I would like to utilize that now.

(as in many of us are night owls and they say all the best writing is done by the moonlight! hehehe!)

We can have our OWL holding the traditional NANO pencil in his claw.

Any more suggestions out there? Lemme hear 'em!

Approach-Past experience-etc.

I was interested in hearing the different kinds of approaches that are going to be used out there, meaning, are you just going at it without an outline, without any forethought, are you going to develop all of that once out of the starting gate?

I'd especially be interested in hearing some of the past participants experiences and what they found useful for themselves in reaching the 50000 word goal.

As for myself, I've begun hashing out a rough outline, building character sheets, and looking for relationships between my characters that were not initially obvious. My past experience illustrated to me that I'm a person who definitely needs an outline. Not in the strictest sense, but some tangible sign posts to guide me. I'm looking to keep it loose so my characters still have license to take the story where they might choose, but I am trying to keep a plot center. Plot center...I don't know if that makes sense, but hopefully you get what I mean.

So yeah, what are your approaches and/or past experiences?

New Regions for Nebraska

This year we have Omaha, Lincoln and Elsewhere. And calendars! I set the Lincoln calendar up so we can post write ins and parties and book release readings (eventually, right?).

Be sure to find the Lincoln or Omaha regional forums so you can keep track of people and events if you live in those cities. "Elsewhere?" You have the Nebraska Elsewhere Forum to yourselves. I'll come by and visit for sure.

I am just so proud of Nebraska that we have outgrown one forum. Sniff. :-)
