Contact List - Information, Please!

Hi, all. As some of you have noticed, the list of members for Team Cincinnati is currently listed at 331 members. This number is incredibly inaccurate, since NaNoWriMo doesn't purge the member information from year to year. I know there are a lot of folks on that list who aren't participating this year, as well as people who have moved from the region and haven't updated their regional affiliations. (There's also a few people who changed their sign-in names and are listed twice.)

At this point, the only way I have to communicate with our team all at once is to post a message in the regional lounge (like I'm doing right now) or send a mass email to the entire list of Cincinnati members. I'm trying to avoid that second option so I'm not buried under a mound of bounced emails and "Who are you and why are you contacting me?" replies. I'd like to come up with a contact list of Wrimos that will be participating this year, just in case I need to pass along any vital information.

If you could send me a NaNoMail and provide me with the following information, I'd really appreciate it:

NaNoWriMo name
First name (or nickname)
Email address

I'd also like to get an idea of the age range of the group, as well as in what areas everyone lives. I know a lot of you have given that information in the Hello thread or on your profiles, but it would make things easier for me if you could include that as well. (If you don't feel comfortable sharing this information, that's fine. This is purely optional!)

Your information will not be shared with anyone, and I promise I won't flood your inbox with spammy emails. I was planning on sending a weekly email to everyone, reminding them of upcoming write-ins and other events, as well as pep talks and announcements regarding Team Cincinnati's progress.

I was also looking into setting up a chat room for those who might like to have virtual write-ins throughout the month. (It would be a private password-protected room.) Let me know if you would be interested in this, and I'll forward the link and the password to you.

I know I didn't make an event or write-in, and let myself get bogged down in the drama of RL, but I had a really good time this year participating.

I just wanted to send out a huge THANK YOU! and *big hugs* to myopic our fearless ML. Totally awesome and supportive through thick and thin, sick and in health, till write-in did us part. So, three cheers for Myopic! Hooray!

Whether your word count for November was 50 or 50,000, join us as we celebrate the conclusion of this year's NaNoWriMo! We'll be meeting for lunch at Buca di Beppo in Rookwood Commons on Sunday, December 2nd at 2:00 pm.

Sorry about the extreme lateness of this post... Saturday's write-in will be at Sitwell's Coffee House in Clifton from 3:00 - 5:00. Sitwell's is at 324 Ludlow, near the Esquire Theatre.

There's a pay parking lot across the street (entrance on Howell Avenue), but Sitwell's no longer validates for parking there. (Or at least they didn't the last time we were there. Grrrrrr.)

I'll be wearing the NaNoWriMo "Time to Write" shirt that has practically become my second skin this month, and I will hopefully be much closer to where I should be on my word count.

Greetings, Nanos of Cincinnati...

I know you're all ramping up your own efforts, but I just wanted to pop in and ask for a little help. I'm a longtime entertainment journalist in Nashville who's dipping his toes into the fiction realm, and I want to write a music-based novel, but I don't want it to be set in Music City U.S.A...

I was thinking around about good-sized midwestern cities with a music scene, and your fair city came to mind...

That said, can someone (anyone?) provide me with a few little pointers to help jump start my research. I want to be as historically accurate as possible...

So...that said, can I hear about...?

Music venues, particularly ones that catered to hair metal in the late '80s, grunge in the early/mid '90s, singer/songwriter/acoustic stuff in the late '90s, and of course, the big arenas (5000+ capacity) across that timeline?

Radio stations and/or personalities integral to the local scene?

The retail side of things: Legendary record stores? Music stores?

Scenesters who've been around for the past 20 years, either as club owners or promoters or journalists?

Musician's hangouts: restaurants, bars, favored day jobs, etc.?

I know there's a write-in on the weekend in question, but I know I at least won't be attending... and for the reason I wanted to ask about.

Is anyone here a convention goer? I'd almost say "wow, going to SugoiCon [i]and[/i] writing a novel, this makes me some sort of super-geek..." But I guess writing a novel at all releases everyone's inner geek just a little bit. I sell artwork every year, although most of my time plunked at the Artist's Alley table this year will be spent writing...

Anyway. Is there anyone else out of the Cinci NaNoCrew that's going to SugoiCon the weekend of November 16-18? Interestingly enough, pretty much all of my personal cheerleaders will be there (as well as a NaNo'er friend of mine from California), and we plan on taking some time to meet our quotas each day.

I was mostly just curious as to whether anyone else would be there... perhaps other attendees who are NaNo writers could plan to get together that Friday or Saturday evening for a small write-in...

Novel Synopsis

Would anyone be interested in sharing a synopsis of their story? I'm not talking about those multiple-page, honed and polished masterpieces that some folks write to sell their novels, I just mean a paragraph on what you think your novel is about, and where it's going. Or might be going. Because at this point, some stories could go anywhere. But I thought it would be fun to share some info on our stories--perhaps genre, general concept. Whatever.

My novel, which (if anyone is looking at my word count just now) has not officially started, does have some vague direction. I am going to write a series of vignettes about women who are connected to each other through a silver necklace bearing a pendant of a shoe. As each woman travels (physically or emotionally) through a key journey for themselves and finds what it is that they need (not necessarily what they are looking for), they pass the shoe on to someone else. I'm thinking of 4-5 stories, each running about 20k words. This is the first contemporary, realistic long fiction I've ever attempted (yes, I'm a fantasy buff), so it should be interesting. Anyone else?

Impromptu, "unofficial" write-ins, anyone?

Yesterday's official write-in at the Speckled Bird Cafe was so productive for me, I want to keep up the momentum. I mentioned to a couple people there about doing some other "unofficial" write-ins along the way and we agreed I'd email you. But stupidly, I can't for the life of me remember your (nanowrimo) names. Please, pretty please, contact me! And anyone else, up for some write-ins? I'm new to Cincinnati and don't really know my way around, and I work (freelance writer/editor) out of my home office, so I'm really going to try to go out to write just about every day I can. Especially in the next few days, since end of this week, I'm going out of town for a week or so. You know, just to make sure I'm keeping things nice and challenging for myself. Anyhow, Awakenings in Hyde Park Square on Erie (they have a website, FYI; coffee, tea, wine) is near me and a place where I've met up with other writers before if anyone thinks they'd like to try that out, for example. I'm probably be there. Just drop me a note. I'm online *a lot.*

Holy Word Count, Batman!

I had a slow morning at work today, so I did a little poking around to see how everyone was progressing with one day under their belts... and I have to say I'm impressed!

I totalled up the word counts for people who have either posted in the regional lounge or sent in their contact information. In a little more than 24 hours, Team Cincinnati has knocked out over 69,000 words! Several people have exceeded their daily quota; one Wrimo had already reached the 6000 word mark! Now that's how to start a November!

You guys, I'm blown away by how much you all rock. Your enthusiasm is infectious and inspiring! (And given the crappy exposition I'm currently slogging through, I need all the inspiration I can get....)

For those of you who are rapidly racking up those numbers, keep up the good work! And for those of you who might be staring at a blank screen cursing under your breath as you search for that perfect first line, you can do this. Just jump in, start writing, and don't look back. All words are good words. You can edit after the month is over.

I'll be sending out a email later tonight to those of you who asked to be included on the contact list, brimming full of events and encouragement, but I just wanted to take a moment and give everyone a well-deserved pat on the back! Whooooo hooooo!

Team Cincinnati Event Calendar

Hi, all. I'm Sherry, the ML for Team Cincinnati. Sorry for being so late in getting this posted, but the folks at NaNo Central are still working out the bugs on the website, and the onsite regional calendar is still in the "coming soon" category.

In the meantime, I've posted the scheduled events for Team Cincinnati on Google Calendars. Search for "NaNoWriMo Cincinnati" and it should pop right up.

So far I've scheduled two kick-off events, Saturday write-ins, and the Thank God It's Over Party. If anyone wants to add write-ins on another night or a Midway Day party, just let me know and I'll add them to the calendar!

The only events I would need RSVPs for would be the Kick Off Dinner at Molly Malone's and the Thank God It's Over Party at Buca di Beppo. The write-ins and the Kick off / Meet and Greet are pretty much free-for-alls. I'll start separate threads for each individual event about a week out if anyone would like to give a heads up that they'll be attending.

For those Wrimos that I've not yet met, I'll be the redhead in glasses wearing a NaNoWriMo shirt at each event. I'll have a sparkly star-shaped mylar balloon at the Kick Off events as well, and probably will also have my NaNoWriMo tote bag with me.
