TGIO Thoughts...

Congrats to everyone who particapted this year.

With all the hard work over with it's time for TGIO Party.

I figure it'd be good to have it on a Saturday or Sunday.

Next question is where to have it.

I know in the past we've gone to Blake's Tavern and while Blake's has the extra space, the downside (for us with cars, anyways) is ease of parking. One the other reasons why I'm shying away from Blake's is the possibility of a smaller group and the food last year was a little too charred for my tastes.

I was thinking about maybe shifting it to Brewed Awakenings in Johnston? After going to the one in Wakefield, it seemed to have a nice atmosphere and enough room if we have a small group or large group.

Thoughts? Suggestions are more than welcome.

The End! - How'd you do?

This was a tough year for me. A lot of stupid crap got in my way, and for the first time ever, I actually failed at this thing. (Last year I was forced to bail early on, which is a totally different story.) I got just a hair under halfway (24k and lots of change, depending on which engine you believe), which is perhaps not so bad. Several times I thought I make one or more final pushes, and in 2006 I did make it, under worse circumstances. But time got away from me in so many unexpected ways, and this wasn't the only thing I failed to get done in time. But I like the story and characters a lot, and I think I'll keep working on this one and see what comes of it. So while I'm disappointed, I'm not really unhappy.

How did you do, and what do you think of what you've produced (so far)?

Hey, I was just wondering if anyone is still interested in doing a write-in tomorrow afternoon? I was thinking maybe 3 pm, at Brewed Awakenings in Johnston, going as long as it takes to finish. It's 1395 Atwood Ave (Rt 5), just slightly south of the Rt. 6 exit. Panera Bread is still an option if that is better for some people, but Brewed has far superior coffee and seating. For any Northern RI wrimos, it's not really too much farther than Panera.

Inspire or Depress?

I've just figured out how to access Rhode Island, belatedly, of course, and I see there are 448 NaNoWriMo'ers registered... Woo hoo's to everyone! I just added up my word count, and see the phat number is 47,500 words. Amazing! I won't claim that it is honed prose, it is not, nor am I stopping until the 30th, either. Please take this example as an inspiration to keep on keeping on, and the happiest of Turkey Day wishes to you in between now and the 30th to all, and to all, a good night! cpw

Smithfield Panera 11/24--possible write-in

Since the Panera Bread at the Smithfield Crossings is right next to one of the larger shopping centers in the area, I decided not to schedule a write-in for Friday, November 28-- aka Black Friday. On the biggest shopping day in the year, it's likely to be far too crowded.

Instead, I suggested a few weeks ago that tomorrow night, Monday, November 24, might be a better idea. Anyone interested? If anyone besides incendiary_dan and myself is interested, let me know by sometime tomorrow afternoon.

I had also considered that a write-in next Sunday afternoon (the final day!) might be a good idea as well. So again, let me know if you're interested.

Panera, Sunday 11/23 - Anyone Planning to Go?

I know we're all getting busy, what with noveling *and* family obligations around Thanksgiving. I know I'm having problems balancing my schedule (the Black Friday Starbuck's write in, for example, is questionable, as I have to drive to Massachusetts to pick up my stepdaughter for an overnight).

Is anyone planning on coming to the Sunday 11/23 write-in at Panera in East Greenwich? I was all by my lonesome last week, and while I didn't mind, I'm not sure that it's the location most conducive for productivity for me... so, if there will be other attendees, great. If not, I'm not leaving the house!

Brewed Awakenings - Tonight - 11/20 - I Won't Be There

For anyone looking to come to tonight's write-in, I have been commandeered by my office to attend a night meeting in Providence, so I will not be at Brewed Awakenings.

If anyone is interested, I will suggest a substitute gathering Saturday afternoon at the Starbuck's in North Kingstown (Stop & Shop plaza, across from Home Depot), say 3-6? If there's no interest, I'm going to stay tucked in and reclusive, but if anyone would like to get together for some tips, support, and war stories, just post here and it will be a "go".

It's Mid Term - How Are We All Doing?

Me? Body Count is rising, I actually Have A Plot , and I've gone from 17k late this morning to almost 21k now, with plans to have my own Night of Writing Dangerously to catch up. I will be at 25k before I get some shuteye. Coffee is your friend. (Panera folks tomorrow, don't expect witty. Expect catnaps!)

Anyone need any inspiration? I'm doing this and I'm right here in your own backyard pep talks?

C'mon, everyone. Even if you are behind, you *can* do this. It doesn't have to be perfect. It doesn't even have to follow a plot, it can meander aimlessly alongside a woodland stream. Go, team, go!

Northern Rhode Island nanos

I live in Burrillville. Any nano meetups in Providence or Worcestor are 45 minutes away for me. Bellingham, where I ended up going last year for write-ins, is also 45 minutes away. Basically, I'm straddling several regions, and none of them are all that close by.

We're the tiniest state, but it still takes time to drive places. Gas is expensive. So this is a call to any others in Northern Rhode Island, especially North-Western Rhode Island: Burrillville, Glocester, North Smithfield, Smithfield. Even people from nearby MA or CT who might be looking in on the RI board, like I look in on my local MA board. Any of you living in this nano-desolate Northern Rhode Island area and wishing there were meet-ups a little closer.

I know two other people in my town who will be doing Nano and would be interested in arranging some kind of meetup. If there are others out there in Northern RI, please respond and let me know if you are interested in figuring something out.

Even if I don't get any response, I will post a follow up soon. Burrillville got a super, shiny new library in April, so the three of us will arrange a few meetings there if no one else in the area pops up and proposes something else.

Either way, I'll still try to make it to a couple of the Providence write-ins.

Hey, I'm a newbie here, and I'm a little confused. I was thinking I'd come to the Brewed Awakenings write ins on Friday i think it was? but how do i know who you guys are.... I'm thinking it must be obvious, but I'm a bit shy (okay, REALLY shy) and it makes me nervous to just go to a place when I don't know everything that's going on haha... I know it's not like its a big place, but is there a spot you guys usually go to? I might get there early just to get going on my writing while I wait, so I wondered if there's a certain place there that i should go to wait. Thanks for any info :) Also, I might go to the Panera one at some point too.

Mid Term thoughts...?

So with the fifteenth of November a week away, just posting to get a general consensus to see if there was a Mid Term Meet Up/Dinner held how many people could make it and where would you like to have it? Or do we forgo a Mid Term and just have a normal Write In at Reflection's Cafe?

In the past we've had the Mid Term and TGIO Party at Blake's Tavern in Providence and last year we had it at East End Cafe in Pawtucket/Cranston.

Since the 15th falls on Saturday, it might be best to have it on a weekend.

Thoughts and suggestions are more than welcome, I know whatever is chosen may not be able to accommodate everyone, if anyone in the South or North want to have their own Mid Term Meet Ups you are more than welcome to do so if you can't make the 15th...

2008 Dare List...

So, at the 2007 TGIO Party we made up a Dare List for 2008, here is a partial list, if anyone else remembers anything else that should be added please feel free to add.

Dare List for 2008:

1. A mirror hung too high in a bathroom, so you can only see the top of your head.
2. The Llama Song.
3. Dave Matthews being the protagonist of your novel. Bonus points if it's a historical fiction and he's still the protagonist.
4. Someone playing the same CD/artist over and over again.

Greetings, local WriMos!
I hope that everyone is having a good time making their novel-writing aspiration happen. This is my first NaNo, and I'm loving this whole process so far! I can't say the same for my husband, who's already a little tired of the fact that he doesn't get to use the computer anymore, or if he does, I'm nagging him to give it back, and I'm pretty sure he's sick of the clickety-clacking of the keyboard 24/7 when he's trying to watch TV, but whatever, it's only for a month, he'll be fine!

So, I got the email giving me access to the Google calendar info about the write ins - thatnks for that. My question is just what exactly happens at write ins? Having never participated before, I'm intrigued and curious. Please let me know.

Any Interest in a Meetup in Southern RI?

Just wondering how many of us are south of Rhode Island's version of the Mason-Dixon line somewhere in the vicinity of East Greenwich. I've moved back from out of state this year and I'm looking to see who else is noveling in the region.

Also, suggestions for *where* we might meetup would be welcome. There's Panera in Wakefield, there's Panera in East Greenwich, there's Brewed Awakenings in South County Commons (with, apparently, hours to 11 on weekdays and midnight on weekends), and True Brew Cafe in Wakefield (need to call to get hours, unless someone knows).

Until the box at the top of the screen is functioning here are the easy steps to change your word count:

1. Click on My NaNoWrimo
2. Patiently wait for servers to move.
3. Click on Edit Info: Novel Info.

It's on the Novel Info page you can update information about your novel.

November 1st Meet Up...

If you have never been there, directions via Google Map.

Write In should start around 5pm or so and runs until we either get sick of each other or run out ideas.

3 weeks to go update...

So, with three weeks to go a few updates:

Rhode Island Wrimo Facebook Page has been updated with new icon for this year.

Regarding Meet Ups:

Saph has gotten her ML Status re-instated so she'll be organzing more of the meet ups this year since most of the week I'll be at class.

It looks like the Poetry Group is no longer going to Reflections Cafe in Providence so that opens Tuesdays back up.

A few days to mark down:

With November starting on a Saturday this year our first Write In will be Saturday, November 1st at Reflections. Times to be determined.

Mid-Term Meet Up is sketched in for Saturday November 15.

RI NaNoWrimo Google Calendar has been updated with the first Write-In.

If there are any College MLs in need of a stickers please don't hesistate to contact us so they can mailed out to you...
