and counting. I just came up with a VERY rough idea of a FMC and very rough plot outline. It will again be romance, but I'm straying from Regency and heading into the realm of either sci-fi or fantasy. I haven't decided...the plot could work with either, but I must get world building soon.

nashville area summertime get-togethers

Hi everyone ! if anyone sees this, is there anyone insterested in some summer-time head-knocking for ideas. from a personal point of view, i've found in the past couple of months that i've gone into something of a writing doldrums. and i always find it helpful to get together with a few of my writing buds to compare material, story ideas, thought, citicisms, etc. to get the writing juices flowing again.

so, if there's anyone interested out there, anyone want to try to organize some get-togethers and maybe do a summer project? sort of a mini work, warm up stuff to get us in the writing moods as a preparation for November? (after all, the next Organized Chaos is only six short months off!!!)... i'm of the thought that maybe we can get together to do a nashville area challenge of sorts with something small, say a short story or two?

Any New Year's Writing Resolutions?

Sometimes, getting started is all about just saying (or typing) it out loud. What are your writing resolutions for this coming year?

I have a few, which look like a lot, but excluding November, only make up around LESS THAN 10 thousand words per month--or 2,500 words per week, or 358 words per day -- very doable. I will no doubt fall behind, but will try to stick with this as long as possible, and get back on if I fall off the writing wagon.

*Work on my NaNovel with the Writer's club, chapter by chapter, until it reads like a real book.

*Towards the end of the year, begin looking for potential publishers and crafting together query letters.

*Explore a few more genres. (OKay, not a tangible goal, should maybe be combined with the one below-- I need to try Western, Satire, Chick-lit, and maybe some sci-fi that has no elements of fantasy in it)

*Crank out one short story or flash fiction per month, at least. Get a beta reader for each of them. Can be any length, but the plot must be resolved at the end (unless the plan was specifically *not* to resolve it)

*Write another NaNovel in November (where I am exempt from any other nonessential writing on this list.)

*Continue to keep a dream journal (it's a big muse)

*Take no more than two weeks to get back to my co-writer with my part of the book. (My friend and I are writing an epistolary novel together, and each part of the book (in the form of emails or letters) is around 1,000 words, so leaving her waiting for a month is just a waste of time)

*Do my fair share of quality beta reading and editing for other people.

while nano was a huge motivator for me (I've never written this much-ever) but I still didn't finnish my novel. I plan to keep writing this December-determined to reach 50K or a satisfying ending, which ever comes first before New Year's. This week, I only added 2k words. Anyone else out there need a motivation buddy?

The door opened, bells jingling merrily as an old woman walked in, an overloaded rolling cart following her with some effort. “OH! Let me help you with that Hellen!” cried a young man of about twenty, rushing to take the cart from her. “How are you today?”
“Well, now, thank you, Dan. So sweet you young people are to me!” Hellen walked over towards the counter and sat in a nearby chair as Dan pulled the cart next to the register. “Can I trouble you for a cup of coffee, too, dear?”
As Dan went to find coffee, a slender woman in her early 30s appeared from an aisle carrying a small step ladder. “Wednesday already, Hellen?” She brushed a section of unruly black hair out of her eyes. “Just let me put this ladder up and I’ll be right there. How’s Solomon doing?”
“It was horrible, dear. Yesterday he got out and when he finally came back he had a dead mouse in his mouth!” The old woman shuddered visibly.
“Well, cats do that. Just think, all the things you do for him, he was just trying to do something for you!” She laughed as she pulled a bag out of the cart. “Time to see what you have for me this week.”
“Just a few odds and ends. My daughter took me to a couple estate sales over the weekend and I got books by the box load.”
Jane began sifting through the pile. “Agatha Christie, The Cat Who…,” she said to herself, neatly putting books into a variety of piles. “You have some neat old dime store mysteries here. These have been selling well lately, too.”
“Glad I could help you. I know you can’t usually give me a lot for them, but this is fun for me, you know. Gives me something to look forward to once a week, and the people here are always so nice!” Hellen shifted her five foot frame towards Jane. “You’re so lucky. When I was your age, I was never as pretty as you.”
Jane blushed just slightly as she pulled another bag from the cart. “I hate to tell you this, but I’m being over run by Agatha Christie paperbacks, so I’m not going to be able to give you much for these.”
“Oh, that’s fine, dear. I got a great deal on the whole box, read a couple dozen before I brought them in, and kept a few random ones for myself. Much better than an old lady like me figuring out how to get to the library, don’t you think?”
“That I’ll give you credit for. I hate the bus system.” She scribbled something quickly on a sheet of paper. “Liking the serial killer books, ‘Len. Good eye!”
“Thank you.” She giggled, almost like a school girl.
Jane couldn’t help but smile. One of the best things about having a bookstore in the heart of a town was the local color, and Hellen was certainly no exception.

Just finished a little over 5,000 words. A little over 4,000 yesterday. I don't know if I can keep this up. A bit less than 15,000 to go. 3 days left. That's 5,000 a day. Whew. That's a lot. I can tell you one thing. I'm getting pretty dang good at stretching things out, prolonging resolution, squeezing in really long appositives, and taking long, loosely connected digressions.:)

West End Ave restaurants

My MC's store is located about 400 feet from the Tin Angel.
I have never eaten in ANY of those restaurants.
So, I now have an issue.

How's my main character going to go out to eat if I know nothing about any of the places there???

My MC likes to walk around a lot, so if you have eaten at any of the restaurants within a mile of Tin Angel, please let me know... I need details and I'm having issues. (She already went to TA in the story, and now she's eating at Calypso...)

November 20th Write-In

Hello everyone,

I'm going to lock myself into the Borders on West End on Tuesday, November 20th (yes, 2 days before Thanksgiving, I know) most of the day to write.

Can anyone make it to come join me? I'm thinking probably noon until as late as possible (I'll even try to stay until 10pm, closing time, but we'll see how hardcore I am). I'll probably be sitting at the table in the back upstairs by the foreign language section, uness there is an event on, in which case you can look for me in the coffee shop area. I wont have a sign, but I will be typing on an alphasmart, have lots of yellow hair, chunky black glasses, and dress like a bum. You can't miss me.

Could one of the mods please put this on the calendar, as well?

Really, the more the merrier. They allow food and drinks in the store, and the Coffeeshop there is top-notch. There is a breathless girl who sells gingerbread lattes. You'll love her.

And I'm still not caught up :p I'm not even up to what yesterdays post count should be! I've tried to describe everything in gross detail. Way too much really. I had abreviations and I stopped using them to try and get a few more words in :p and now I'm stuck again! My big problem is Why?

Why would you want to fight for a dream world that's being destroyed by a creature from one of your other nightmares? Couldn't you just create the dream world again? Is there going to be ripples that affect your awake life? If you die fighting the creature will you die in real life? If you leave it alone and you go to the first dream world and the creature comes and attacks do you die then?

Bleh I have no answers! Abby where did you find that list of plot points? I think I can use it now :)

Attention all Nano's wanting to meet up in Franklin

I just moved to Franklin from Antioch. I met up the other night for a nano write-in at Barnes and Noble with a couple nano gals. I'd love to meet more of you. I also love Panera Bread and thought this might be a nice place to meet. Next Tuesday night after I get out of class, I will probably head straight over there. If anyone wants to meet up, I will be there sometime between 4 and 5 and will stay for a few hours getting in my word count. It's off the Murfreesboro Rd. exit in Franklin off of 65 and you make a right coming from the Nashville direction.

I will also be there this afternoon after class if anyone wants to meet up. I will be one of the few people with a laptop glue to my face... I'm also wearing pink today.

Ok I went ahead and replied to the Bellingham Washington word challenge. One person had said ok somewhere in a post and I got an e-mail from someone else.

The downside handwriting stuff out and finally got it typed in and it's not much and now I'm at a stuck point :p So get typing people! :D

Ok now for an even sillier question how do you figure out the word count for the whole region?

Okay, so I'm all for participating in at least one write-in, but I work odd hours, including weekend evenings, which kind of sucks as weekends seem to be when most people try to get together. This is my first year, so I'm eager to find some moral support, including those who might be willing to meet during the week. I'm off all day Wednesday and Thursday, although I have a prior engagement Thursday evenings. I also typically work a day shift on Fridays, off by 6:30, so meetups after that would be awesome as well. I would consider hosting something at my place if anyone was interested (I live in Hermitage).
Okay, well, hope to meet some of you soon, and let me know!
