nadine is my stripper character. doesn't every piece of literary fiction have to feature a sex worker these days? nadine was originally thought of as a 3rd-tier character but she's scraped and clawed her way to the 2nd tier. she's playing an important role here.

An Exercise in Futility: Character Cafe

I saw someone do this a few years back, and it may actually be going on in another forum here, but I haven't seen it yet, and I think it works better with fewer people, so here goes.

This is a writing exercise to make you think about your characters and plot progression and whatnot. It is, essentially, a little roleplay set in a nondescript bar. For some reason that nobody ever questions, people from every sort of universe trickle in here. They mingle with one another, form relationships, and generally hang out. Think of this as the place your characters go after a hard day's work to detox.

Seriously, you just bring your character in and have them interact with other people's characters from all different genres. In just having them talk to each other, it makes you think about how your character relates in certain social situations, how they form friendships, and their outlook on the current events in your story.

It's really pretty cool - just don't have your character question how this whole 'bar' thing works.

Oh, and all are welcome, except those technically considered minors (unless they sneak in). It doesn't have to be your main character, and you aren't limited to only one character. Just have fun, and let your words flow!

tinamarsden and I will be kicking off NaNo at Bertolinos at 12:01 Saturday morning. It's a 24 hour coffee house with tables/chairs and couches and wireless off of Union Avenue by Bank of America and Target. Please join us! The more the better. I have crazy curly brown hair usually 'coiffed' Einstein-esque and Tina has blond hair. We both wear glasses. Maybe we'll even write NaNo on a piece of paper next to us for ease of figuring out NaNos and Non-NaNos. Let us know if you plan on joining us!

Not sure how many of you remember me from previous years, as I haven't looked around to see if there's any new faces or not. At any rate, for those who do remember me, I'm not participating this year largely because I moved to MI to be with my girlfriend and now have an almost full time job plus a very busy life outside of work. So I'm taking this year off from
NaNo.

I have some good memories frm meeting you all and shooting for the winner's circle. Hope you all win several times over!

There are four of us here and we're working on our Art! It's a good feeling.

We will meet twice a month at The Muse on 2509 6th Avenue, at 10 am. Due to holidays we will be meet again on December 6th. However, if anyone is interested, Wednesdays are open to getting writers together in the interim.

Hi Everyone! I'm Deleva over in Fircrest... this will be my fourth NaNoWriMo and I'm really excited. I always get all jazzed around this time of the year...

I've seen a lot of people asking about meetups and whatnot. Our ML for the last couple of years has been Susan (sack36) but I don't know if she's doing it again this year.

Anyway, anyone got any ideas for their plot that they'd like to share with the rest of the class? :)

Mandolin Cafe in Tacoma

The Mandolin Cafe is located at 3923 South 12th Street near the intersection of South 12th & Proctor. There will be soft harp guitar music from 2 to 4 pm and jazz at 8 to 10 pm. They have free Wi-Fi, a large conference room, a large wine and beer menu, tea, coffee, a European bistro menu and dessert.

It costs $5 an hour to rent the conference room that holds 14 people. We could also use available tables in the main cafe area.

Did we want to rent the place out for 3 hours starting at 2pm? I figure if everyone brings a $1 then we would be good.

hello local writers. well, we're in it now, aren't we? in it to win it! i've crested the 1,500-word mark and i think i'm losing my second wind. the third should be along shortly.

but i'm not able to upload my manuscript to this web site in order to document my word count. is anyone else having this problem? the field in which i'm to paste my paragraphs does not accept my cursor. it's not an active field. i don't know the technical term for such things, i fear.

can anyone assist me with this? is there a way to alter the field so i can brag about my accomplishment?

Hey Everyone,

I checked the list of MLs, and it doesn't look like anyone's signed up for this year for the Tacoma/Pierce County area. I've not got the time myself to volunteer to be ML, but I could at least help form up a kick off party.

How would everyone feel about maybe the Round Table Pizza in South Tacoma off Hosmer on the 30th? That's kind of a central location, so maybe some of the Puyallup/ Spanaway people can get there too. I haven't checked yet, but the Round Table Pizza banquet rooms can usually be reserved without a deposit and then everyone would probably just need to order a little something.

Any thoughts?

Hostile Take Over of Nanoland

Whose with me? I am planning to start my conquest in Tacoma, move into the greater Seattle/Puget Sound area by kick-off, move across America in week one, the Americas and part of Europe by week three and finally finish off the rest of the world with Antarctica as my thrown by Thanksgiving. Ok, so this might be a little more daunting than 50k words and such, but hey it'll show the greatness of the South Sound. What I am letting you know about though is that I applied to be ML for our lovely region. Whether they accept me or not is a matter I'm not entirely going to mess with at the moment, but I thought I would just let people know.

I know there's been talk about heading this up already, but I figure since there is less than a week until the clock starts running and we get buried under word counts, we might want to get our logistics out of the way. If there are calls that need to be made or things bought, then I'm willing to step up for this until an ML is found.

Now that I'm done aimlessly ranting, what is our schedule for the month (tentatively)? Please reply below some places and times for weekly write-ins, kick-off, etc. If calls need to be made to book a room or an errand needs to be ran, state that too. If you're willing to help out and alleviate those kinds of burdens, feel free to do so.
