Fantasy Dare Thread

Most of the other genres already have one, so we should have one too!

Have your characters go on a huge quest for a magical object
BP the quest is a sub plot, not the main plot
TBP if the object turns out to be useless because all it does is make cheese
QBP it it is actually useful because it makes cheese
Cookies if the object really helps save the day by making cheese

Writing Buddies

So that we don't clutter up the forum with dozens of writing buddy requests, here's a single, consolidated thread to post your requests!

Subgenre Index

Fantasy is such a far-reaching label that it simply can't cover all the possibilities. Here you'll find a comprehensive listing of those who aren't writing just fantasy!

NOUN: A subcategory within a particular genre: The academic mystery is a subgenre of the mystery novel.

To have your subgenre thread added to this list, please send me an email with a LINK to the thread, and which main genre it is for (there is more than one thread like this.). Requests that do not include a link will not be added.

Fantasy mixed drinks!

Josi, my MC, was a barmaid. She is now showing two men she's travelling with how to mix drinks. Unfortunately, I don't know the first thing about alcohol (preserving the youth of tomorrow! =D) or mixing drinks, ESPECIALLY in a fantasy setting. What on earth is this woman making?! XD Anything-- normal to obscure and beyond-- is much appreciated and welcome.

Post Your Epic Villain Deaths Here!

To begin with, this thread is actually for all of the novel genres, but since a rather decent part of NaNoers are posting here, I'll put it here. For you writers out there who already know how your story is going to end, how does your arch-villain get taken down? Post your epic villain ( or hero, depending on how your story ends ) death here!

I'll start it out. My guy gets shot with a shotgun twice at point-blank by my MC, but later comes back to life when his body is thrown out of a helicopter and into a nuclear blast. After that, my poor MC jumps out of the helicopter after him and hits him with a special sword, which completely explodes them both. :(

Heroes vs. Villains matchups: Who strikes the final blow?

Ok, so I've got a question to ponder. At the end of everything, and you MCs are in the midst of the final battles with the Evil Lord and his greater or lesser minions, who fights who? Does the MC get to strike the final blow on the Evil Lord or does he get stuck with the high ranking evil lackey? Is there a classic sub-boss battle between the FMC and the SMOKING HOT evil elfain warrior chick? Tell all!

As for me, I'm thinking about having my pet wizard, Mallinoy, reluctantly offer to use a spell that would normally destroy the world, but since we can't really have that happen, he decides to alter it and amplify it through the MC, who happens to be a decedent of a race once used as living relics and magical amplifiers to the purpose of focusing the attack to a single target (rather than the whole world) and destroying Mallinoy's former master (the Evil Lord).
On the other hand, that kinda leaves little room for my sub-chars to get in any glory, so I'll probably have a bunch of useless and time-consuming battles between them and the Evil General/Hot Elf Bitch, just mano-a-mano, while the MC decides how he's going to save the day.

A Pregnant Vampire?

For a sweet bit I made a vampire and a werewolf fall in love. As I was writing in study hall, my friend asked me what I was doing. I responed with, "Implying that a werewolf and a vampire had sex." At first she thought that the werewolf was the female and she said "You should make her pregnant." I politely told her that the woman in the relationship was the vampire. My friend blinked twice and said, "Yeah so?"

So now for a bit of comedy, my moody, depressed, Italian vampire, who swore never to fall in love is now pregnant. I need someone (I've asked a ton of people, and I need an answer that is slightly funny). Help!

Fantasy wordcount graph

It's about a week in, so it is probably time for me to create a Fantasy word count graph for folks to take part of. If you click through the graph, you'll be taken to a page that shows additional author details.

To be added to the graph, please post a reply with some of the most interesting fantasy concepts that your novel introduces (e.g., in my novel Childhood Lost, an older, malicious Peter Pan travels between worlds with the aid of a piece of a sail from the Mary Celeste; and the lead heroine, Giovanna Lee, discovers she is able to bend time a bit when traveling between worlds (via her magical Twilight Gem) so that very little time passes in her destination world since she was last there (though this process incurs a personal cost)).

Note that the graph is updated about once an hour; and it will take a little while before it first appears. Also, I'm planning to post one of these in the Science Fiction forum as well; maybe we can get an average word-count word war of sorts between the two genres ;-)

Written myself into a brick wall. In need of help!

So I know what I want in my novel and where I want the story to go. I've written what I wanted to write at various points down, filling in the plot holes later. But I came home last night after being out all day and hit a mental blank when I opened up the document.

So far there's three scenes/subplots in total that I want to write:

1. The ski trip/volcano eruption. I've written getting there and the next morning already but after the first kiss that happened in my excerpt I found myself unable to write further for that. I need a reason for Loki to be in the pit of the volcano other than poking fun at the fire dragon/fire golem that controls the lava flow, a reason for Persephone to have gone with him and a reason for the Big Bad to be there (other than kidnapping Persephone).

2. Hades' subsequent expulsion from the Academy, for when Persephone's kidnapped his rage makes his fire ability go out of control and the volcano erupts, destroying Pompeii. The Academy dean sees him as a threat, which may or may not lead to being hunted when he refuses to go quietly. Fortunately for him, Loki, Icarus, Poseidon, Bastet and Sekhmet are on his side.

3. After the battle with the Big Bad. Finding Persephone laying unconscious in the Asphodel Meadows of the Underworld, and Hades transferring a pomegrante seed into her through a kiss (which has symbolic influences, given that in the original mythos Hades gave Persephone six pomegrante seeds that would mean she had to stay six months in the Underworld with him).

My big question; which should I write?
