Synopsis: Dark Road

The Supernatural Defense Initiative - Charged with keeping the world's supernatural and paranormal populations and events under control and out of the public eye. Very few people who work for them ever leave before retirement.
Twenty years ago, Gabriel O'Connell - the Initiative's immortal co-founder and best field agent - did. Now it seems to be reaching out to draw him back.
Pulled away from his teaching position at Cambridge to help investigate the murder of his own great-great-grandson, Gabriel finds himself involved with people he'd never expected to see again: Mikaela, his ex-girlfriend and former partner; Vlad, a man closer to him than his own brother had been; and Donavan, fellow co-founder of the Initiative and once his closest friend.
Donavan, who considers him a threat to the Initiative and has been seeking ways to deal with him permanently. Mikaela, who wants nothing more than to rekindle the love and trust she broke by lying to him. Vlad, who wants Gabriel to come home and resume his role as field leader.
And the Undying Ones, other immortals whose motivations are inscrutable at best, dangerous for all mankind at worst. What they want, not even Gabriel knows...
