Stage Door
an excerpt
“I’ll get it!” yelled Cameron from his room. Max could hear his slam his bedroom door shut and pound down the stairs.
“I’ve got it, Cameron,” Max yelled back. “Just a second.”
He wiped his face with the sleeve of his sweatshirt, pulled the sweatshirt off and threw it on the ground, pulling on a clean black t-shirt and his jeans. He sprinted down the stairs as fast as he could, but when he got there, the door was already open and Cameron leaned against the door frame, talking to Marie.
Cameron turned to face him. “I didn’t know you had a hot date, little brother.”
“Cameron, I’m ten minutes older than you. You have no right calling me ‘little brother’.” He turned to Marie and offered his hand. “Would you like to come in?”
She placed her hand in his. “Of course,” she smiled.
“May I take your coat, Mademoiselle?” Cameron bowed, putting on a fake French accent and holding out his arm.
She laughed and unbuckled her black coat, slipping it off and handing it to him.
“Fuck off, Cameron,” Max said, but he was laughing too.
“I feel like such a lady,” Marie said.
“Shall we go?” Max gestured to the hallway that lead to their entertainment room. He bowed, and she turned to him and curtsied.
“Absolutely,”
He watched as she gracefully sat down next to him on the big navy blue couch in front of the TV, but they weren’t even acting anymore. She was naturally graceful.
“You and your brother don’t get along too well?”
“That’s about the closest we come.”
