After Midnight
an excerpt
The gibbous moon glimmered on the ground. Kira Court danced over the puddle full of milky reflections. Talullah, Kira’s wonderfully happy bull terrier, splashed through the puddle behind before overtaking Kira and diving into a dark leafy mess. There was a slight nip in the heavy night. It was only October but Kira sniffed Christmas in the air. The wintery breeze insisted on whipping her long fringe into her eyes and Kira decided it really was time to stop bothering to try to grow out her fringe and accept that she was a fringe type of person. Besides, Your Hair magazine said fringes were currently in. Not that Kira followed fashion. Well sometimes, when she liked what was in fashion. Tallulah grunted impatiently at her owner, who was staring into a glow of damp yellow street lamp shine. Kira rolled her eyes before following Tallulah’s tugging and told her dog, “it was you who stopped” but Tallulah didn’t care about the quiet voice which was lost on the wind.
