In America, a country of such vivid cultural diversity, there was once a war. Like its many wars of the past, this war had its share of guns, blood, and gore. It began when the Conquistadors of Spain landed on the beaches of southern Florida, continued with the death of thousands of the indigenous peoples, and forced hundreds of thousands of Africans into enslavement, Africans who later marched on our nation’s capitol and took back a small part of their freedom. And it continues today, among the untold lives of Mexican immigrants--stories of survival, destitution, and hope. This is the story of what one man did for another on July 4th, 2021.
