About Ms.KarenLocation: Auburn, Washington Home Region: Age:49 Website: http://mskarensplace.blogspot.com Favorite novels: I love the characters (and the story) in The SpellKey Trilogy. It's one of the few books I can read again and again and still enjoy it. Favorite writers: Can I even pick a favorite? Maybe later... Favorite music: For this series...It seems each character has chosen a song, so I listen to their tune while I write about them. Cole's song is called Lift... Non-noveling interests: photography, really bad movies, pestering my children, long quiet drives... wait, if I'm driving, I'm usually swearing at some idiot driver, so it's not that quiet. I love a good mall crawl now and then. What? More than you wanted to know? |

Excerpt: Origins
Halfway down the hall a door burst open, torn from sturdy hinges when the Cleric hit it with her body. Had she moved a little faster, she might have gotten out of the way before her assistant landed on top of her. Neither was prepared for the rain of medical implements, nor for the battery of foul language accompanying the outburst.
Two guards pulled the healers to safety.
“Is whatever you have in there fully restrained?” one of the guards asked, pulling out his weapon.
“Yes… for now, anyway,” the lead cleric answered, focusing on getting the ringing in her ears to stop.
“You guys get your hands on another feral half-breed?” the other guard asked, trying to peer into the room without getting spotted.
“No, nothing that simple,” the healer mumbled.
A woman approached the group in the hallway, a serene smile on her face. “Ah, I see someone is finally awake.”
“Claire? Is that you?” Came a voice from the abruptly vacated room.
“Yes, it’s me.”
“Get in here and undo these damn restraints before I gnaw off my arm and beat someone with it.”
“Gods, I’ve missed that woman,” Claire said, stepping through the doorway.
