The dining room had probably once been the most grand room in the house. Now, though, with cobwebs clinging to the sharp, tarnished points of the chandelier and the yellowed wallpaper peeling away from the wall, curdling like some disgusting paisley-print milk, it looked like the set of a horror movie.
How I wished this were a horror movie. If it were, this would just be another take, a coffee break promised soon in the furture. But it was no movie. The absolute terror in the eyes of the other six captives told me: this was real.
And we were going to die.
