To Be Named
an excerpt
"My name is Nikolas," the man interrupted.
"Yeah. Whatever," she flippantly dismissed his words. "I'll ask you again. Why the fuck am I alive, Nikolas?"
Nikolas frowned. "I don't understand."
"Obviously," she replied, rolling her eyes. She sighed heavily, pointedly even, showing that she was already exasperated with Nikolas not giving her the answers she wanted. "How about this: why don't you stop staring at me naked, and you tell me exactly why you're here."
Nikolas sat back as the girl shakily stood, her legs not wanting to hold her after, he assumed, so many years of not needing to. However, either she wasn't as frail as she looked, or she was willing herself to act as 'normal' as possible. Whatever 'normal' was for her.
"I am here to awaken the Saviour," Nikolas responded, averting his eyes just as she stretched.
"Why?" she replied, padding across the quickly drying floor towards a previously unnoticed button on the wall.
"Because the world is in danger. Humanity is in danger. And when that occurs, the members of the Holy Village will send a pair of twins up the Holy Mountain--"
"Chomolungma to reawaken the Saviour, the one who banished the demons and creatures before," the girl finished for him.
Nikolas could only stare, wide-eyed and unrepenting, at the girl.
"Heard it before. Can you tell?" she said flippantly. She continued. "When the Saviour is awakened, humanity will once again be saved from those that seek to destroy it." There was a pause as she pressed the button on the wall. "What's so great about saving humanity anyway?" she mumbled.
Nikolas was about to stand, indignant, and answer her with all the reasons she shouldn't be acting so off-handedly when suddenly, the floor began to move again. This time, however, it was moving upwards.
