Mouse Girl
an excerpt
“Big day tomorrow.” Lisa moved past her to walk along the curb, her arms out at her sides for balance.
Justine leaned her back against the wall, letting the cool breeze cool her warm face. “Uh huh. I’m so nervous I’ll make a fool of myself.”
Lisa smirked and stopped. She rose to the balls of her feet and turned slowly so she was facing the opposite way. “You will,” she said, starting to walk the curb again.
Justine’s jaw dropped in shock. “I- I- You-” She pouted, her forehead creasing. “That’s not very nice, Lis!”
Lisa grinned and rose to the balls of her feet, this time slowly spinning to face Justine. “The truth,” she said with a nod.
“It is not.” Justine frowned and slid down the rough brick to sit on the pavement.
Lisa moved to her and crouched down, resting her hands on Justine’s knees so she wouldn’t tip over. “Is, too. And it’s okay.” She reached out and patted the top of Justine’s head.
