Mirror, Mirror
an excerpt
The room was dark, lit only by the faint red glow of a digital alarm clock, as Caitlin awoke. She groaned, covering her eyes with her hands. "I wish I hadn't woken up," she thought to herself. "I even turned my alarm clock off so I wouldn't wake up this early today."
Indeed, the room was silent except for Caitlin's breathing, the hum of a refrigerator, and the barely-audible whirring of a computer's fans. Caitlin rolled over to look at the alarm clock, sighed, and then curled up into fetal position and began breathing slowly and shallowly, trying to fall back asleep. "I was having such a nice dream, too," she thought, "even if I can't remember it right now."
She continued trying to calm her breathing and lure her body back to sleep, but after what felt like hours, she gave up. To her surprise, it had only been an hour, but she felt so well-rested that she did not think it was worth it to keep trying to sleep.
