Excerpt: The Hunting of the Ortanique

Of all things strange and mysterious in this world, none is more supernatural than the ortanique. Sweeter and more delicious by far than its namesakes, the orange (the color of which it exemplifies, somehow, in taste), and the tangerine, the ortanique is luscious, exquisite and delectable, far more so than nature has the ability to produce. It is, if such a thing is even possible, a minor intrusion of some other realm into our world. A small piece of something other -- one of many in nature, but perhaps the only tangible, tastable one.
