Absolute Twilight
an excerpt
The room had four beds, one by each wall. There was a large window by one of the beds bearing curtains unlike any Rae had seen. They were multi-layered, with three different curtains on top of each other. The one closest to the window was thin, smooth, and almost transparent. It was silvery grey, but with varying shades, making it look sort of like the surface of a lake. The middle curtain was thicker and rougher, and the background was of a grey so dark it was nearly black. It had zig-zagging lines of light grey across it, but they weren't up and down and parallel. They were randomly zig-zagging all over the place in all directions, making it look like a parallel zig-zag pattern had exploded. The last curtain was dark purple. It had horizontal fringes attached to it in stripes all along it, but not like it had holes in it, like there were strips of fringe material that had been sewed to it. Some of the threads of the fringe and the curtain itself were white, black, and light purple, but it was mostly dark purple.
Rae chose the bed by the curtains.
