Synopsis: It Sucks to be You
Adrien is unlucky. Very very unlucky. He's having the adult version of "Alexander's Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day". And then it gets worse. A lot worse.
Excerpt: It Sucks to be You
I was so surpised to hear that man, that agent, say my real name that I completely forgot my strength when I threw the phone down. Adrien’s scream, like that of a little girl, still hung in the air between us, and he looked at me, horrified, with this hands covering his ears. His mouth hung open, his eyes as big as saucers.
“What?” Adrien said finally, his voice trembling. “Who was that?”
I looked at him and scrubbed my hands through my hair. “I don’t know,” I told him, “but I might have an idea.”
“What?” Adrien’s voice suddenly became shrill. “Shit! Shit! Shit! John! They got Ellie! Shit!”
He was starting to panic and it made me want to hit him. I tried to think. My thoughts were racing. Agents were after me, clearly, but what did that have to do with what was happening in White Plains? With Ellie? I had to find out.
