Not another one of those stories where a couple of teenagers end up in Faerie
an excerpt

“He looked really freaked out, so I decided I might as well listen to him. The first thing he asked me was ‘Do you think fairies are real?’ I just looked at him like he was crazy. ‘Well,’ he said, ‘It doesn’t matter. They are. And I just saw a couple of them kill someone.’

“And then I really did think he was crazy.” Adan looked at Keely to see if she was going to interrupt and say that he was crazy, too. She didn’t. “Anyway, I said something along the lines of ‘You’re kidding.’ ‘No,’ he said, and he was dead serious. You could tell. Which was weird, because, if you know Zach at all, you know how good he is at deadpanning stuff. But you could tell he was serious about this. He really thought that he’d seen a couple of fairies kill someone. So I asked him ‘Where’s the body?’ ‘They took it,’ he said.

“By then class had already started, and the teacher—Ms. Tarnhelm? You know her? Awful class. Anyway. Ms. Tarnhelm had started to frown at us. So I pulled out a piece of paper and tried to look like I was taking notes. And, actually, it turned out I should have been taking notes, so I didn’t ask Zach any more questions until we had to do some partner work. Then the first thing I asked was ‘Why did you tell me?’

“’Because,’ he said, ‘You seem like the kind of person who wouldn’t freak. And I’m freaking.’ And then the bell rang. And I haven’t seen him since.” Adan frowned and looked at Keely. “You’re not freaking.”

Keely shook her head. “No, and you know why? Because a day ago, I saw my best friend kidnapped by fairies.”
