Synopsis: A Stranger In This World
Very loosely romance.
John decides he can't take it anymore and skips town, catching a train up to his grandfather's home in Copran Circle. He then realizes that he traded a clingy girlfriend and overbearing parents for a scratchy recording of Mairzy Doats and a grandfather who talks to headstones.
There's a legend about a woman in the woods who can't die. The most popular theory is that the Fountain of Youth is located somewhere up in these mountains, but no one takes it seriously. The last expedition returned fountainless. Her grave might have been in the Copran Circle Cemetery area.
And Kyle (more specifically Kyle, being forced by Julie) keeps sending him letters of encouragement. Or not.
Excerpt: A Stranger In This World
Dearest Pissant John:
Good job. You finally grew a pair and, what, ran away from home? Hell's bells, kid, I thought you were finally going to be a man and start trying to sort this all out. I guess I was wrong. Have fun with your grandpa. No, really. Have fun. Have fun moping around in the Apps while we get to deal with the fallout from your girl. She's in an endless funk and I hope you break an arm up there because you've been a real jackass. Better yet, break both arms, because Julie is practically hovering over my shoulder as I write this.
