Excerpt: Searching For More
She reached out for the second time that day. And this time, as her fingers met wood, she breathed a sigh of relief. Okay, so it was really there. But now… another question plagued her. What was on the inside?
Or better yet, who?
Before her mind could reason that no one could comfortably fit into such a small place, her fist met the wooden door three times, knocking. She realized after the fact that she probably looked utterly ridiculous, knocking on a likely empty box, but she didn’t really care. She’d done stupider things before. If no one was there, she’d simply—
The door opened and out popped a head. Well, the head was attached to a man. A rather handsome looking man, if she were being completely honest.
“A little busy at the moment, try coming back later,” the handsome stranger said, his voice laced with a strong British accent. Which made things… even more intriguing, if that were at all possible.
He popped his head back inside the blue box and shut the door. She blinked a few times, feeling confused and just a little put out. ‘Busy’. Busy doing what? He was in a box. In the middle of Kansas. With an accent that signified he was in the wrong place altogether.
Her hand, which had been hovering in the air since he’d shown his face, slowly moved to rest at her side again. She sighed and moved to sit against the brick wall of the Planet, right on the side of the blue box. He said to try back later… so she’d wait. For later.
