Karina
an excerpt

When Karen walked in her back door after school that day, she saw her parents in the kitchen just talking. Karen and her friends hadn’t been able to go out after school because Mandy, as it turned out, had gotten sick in her last class and had to be sent home, and Charlotte’s mother unexpectedly came to pick her up, and Karen and Emily decided that it wasn’t worth it to go by themselves.

So even though Karen came home earlier than she’d expected, she was surprised to see her parents home. Usually she got home around 3:30, her father would get home about 4:30, and then her mother would get home about 5:00. So to see both of them home now was kind of a surprise, but knowing them, there was a perfectly practical reason.
