Wait for Our Meeting

“So, what is your decision? Will you chose your life over those of you hold close and dear to your heart? Or shall I take your life in return for theirs?” The hollow and majestic voice echoed in the endless night.
Kyler could hardly make out the figure the voice belonged to in this nocturne. His pale blue eyes narrowed to slights trying to focus on what was barely visible. He wasn’t too sure what or who he was protecting with his decision. But if anything was for sure he did not want to die, nor did he want anyone he loved to die either. He knew that if they were to die and he to live it would be meaningless and the same if the opposite were to happen. They would miss him and perhaps even be angry with him and his decision. If it were possible he didn’t want to choose either. As selfish and immature as that might seem, it was the choice he wanted to make. And if it were impossible to chose, he make it possible. He swung his arms down at his sides shouting ever on into the blackness. “I chose life! Life for all of us!”
“What a putrid and naïve choice boy. Don’t you know how impossible that would be? Sacrifices must be made in order to obtain what one seeks. Your selfishness is uncanny and silly. Come back to me once you’ve matured.” The same voice calmly replied. It was followed by a haunting laughing which carried on awhile after the man had left.
Kyler was left in the darkness to be swallowed up in the emptiness and nothingness of this realm. He was unsure as to what he was waiting for, perhaps he could not leave this place? No, he disagreed with that. He could leave as he pleased like all the other times. But this time it was different because he was in fact waiting for something or someone. It seemed like hours, and with fatigue he dropped to his knees and relaxed on the darkened ground. Ice eyes fixated on no particular point in the empty nori sky. He closed his eyes, relaxing back on his hands, face to the sky. He began to ponder if this person or thing would ever come. A soft sigh escaped him as he tried to forget where he was and perhaps lapse back into a state of slumber.
Moments passed and as they dwindled by and the air around him changed ever so slightly. Not in temperature but with light. He opened his eyes slowly, but it seemed no different then before. It was in that very moment that he noticed a small lightly slowly cascading down from the heavens. Like star, but it was different. Much more golden and serene. It flashed brightly and then came quicker now till it took full form suspended a few feet above him.
It was a beautiful young girl. Long ebony hair in wavy curls that slipped forward over her left shoulder. Her eyes alabaster, almost a very soft golden color. Her skin was an ivory cream color illuminated by her inner shimmer. Her body was embellished by a fine silky white dress that lay lose against her skin. And from her back which held her to the sky was a pair of angelic wings. She removed on hand that she held cupped to her chest and extended it down toward the boy, a warm slime on her lips as she did so.
Kyler stared at the girls hand for a few moments longer before decided to take it. He reached for her hand and tightened his hand around it gingerly as not to break her or cause her pure image to disappear. With her help, he slowly rose to his feet again. Making sure never to move his cool eyes away from her warm golden ones, not once. He held stead faster to her hand as she continued to rise into the air, back from whence she came.
“My Hero…” Her heavenly voice echoed. “Please, please come to me soon.” She slowly released his hand, her smile still present on her lips even though she was leaving. Even if she was smiling while saying goodbye, it was obvious she was unsettled by this departure, her eyes could not lie as the tears began to slip free and wet her lashes. “Come to me, please.” She whispered again.
There was nothing Kyler could do even though he wanted to hold on to her hand as long as he could… he wanted too his hand disobeyed and allowed her to leave. As much as he wanted to shout, he could not, he could not tell her to stay or wait. And since he was spellbound to do neither of the sorts he did the only thing he could do. “Wait for me.” He whispered back as she disappeared into the now illuminated sky. As she ascended the light grew brighter and brighter until the light became red and he was forced to open his actual eyes and awaken from the dream.
Kyler lay in bed for a few moments longer trying to make sense of what he had dreamed of, but as the seconds ticked by so did his memory of what the dream was even about. When he could no longer remember he flipped the comforter over his head in frustration. He couldn’t go back to sleep so decided to finally get up and get ready for another slice of life day.
