Synopsis: The Mage of Gates
For the world of Agrand, there has always been one form of power: Mages. From the mountains of Crystalbourne to the ocean of Eastspell, and most especially in the city of Magehaven, you will find this strangest form of human, capable of felling mountains and calming oceans, restoring life and condemning it. And alongside the strongest of these mages are the Shadows, tame vampires bound by a centuries old contract to serve and protect this life that is in direct opposition of their own.
The hero of modern-day Agrand is the necromancer Rain Magus, a terminally ill mage whose only goal is the destruction of the contract his ancestors created to bind the souls of mage and Shadow. To destroy it, he will damn lifelong friends, form alliances with death mages, and even become enemies with angels.
In a world that depends on the mage's contract with Shadows for their survival, Rain's path will not be easy. But he will also not walk it alone.

He opened the book in his hands, flipping through it quickly. Ice moved forward, trying to get a better glance at the book. He glanced up at her expression and grinned, taking two quick steps around her so that he could drop the open book onto her desk.
Ice looked down at the pages anxiously. She couldn't easily read the text written on it, and didn't try to. In any case, the page was filled almost completely with the illustration of a giant spear. Simply and traditionally shaped, but with a series of runes carved into the sides of it that seemed to change every time her eyes focused on them.
"The Runed Spear of Memories," Rain said. "Said to have been created at the beginning of time. It was born with the First Dragons, and said to have disappeared around the same time, when the vampires first started to appear. Legend has it that whoever touches the Spear will have the Memories of Eternity."
"And what can a person do with such memories?" Seeker asked quietly.
"Who knows?" He shrugged dismissively. "Most humans would go mad. It's the First Artifact. Born with dragons to be used by dragons."
"Then why do you want it?"
He laughed quietly. "You wouldn't believe me if I told you."
