Poison
an excerpt

Now, I knew it was a bad idea. I got that feeling in my gut I usually get when something I do is going to ‎turn out bad. I rarely pushed past that bad feeling, and when I did it always turned out bad. But, anyway, I ‎knew pick pocketing this guy would be a bad idea. But, he didn’t seem to notice anything around him, ‎walking slow, but seeming to have a place in his mind that he wanted to go. But, you see, he was wearing ‎his money, his ears were hung with six gold hoops each, small, but small crystals imbedded in each one, ‎making his pretty blond hair glitter when they showed. He wore wealthy clothes, a deep blue waist coat, ‎black trousers, and a jacket that had to be worth pounds upon pounds. His long, slender fingers were curled ‎lightly, gold and silver rings glittering lightly, with jewels of various colors embedded inside them. He looked ‎as if he hadn’t seen a day of hard work in his life. His green eyes glittered in the light, as he walked to ‎whatever destination he was headed off to. And, he didn’t even notice me following right behind him.‎

I knew this was a bad idea, knew it was crazy to try and pick a noble’s pocket when I was feverish and ‎my ribs ached like a son of a bitch. Seriously, I was almost seeing double, glancing around, and following ‎the noble, each step like torture. I should have been resting, but even I knew I needed some help. And, no ‎doctor was going to help some fool with no money. They just weren’t. ‎

So, I was following this oblivious looking noble through the market, where crowds of people walked, and ‎crowded around venders and street performers, ready to get ripped out of their money. He weaved the ‎crowd, still oblivious to my presence. Hell, I think the guy could’ve been ripped a hundred times and not ‎even notice. I followed his pretty blond head, and waited until he did something to make my part quite a bit ‎easier.‎

That part came in the form of him walking down an alley way as a short cut probably to where he lived. ‎He left the crowds of people, to a dead quiet alleyway, and I followed, moving as slow and careful as I was ‎able. Not that I could move very careful, what with my ribs aching up a storm. Damn did they hurt. I wiped a ‎bit of sweat from my head, fighting the urge to cough. Not only would that hurt like hell, but god would that ‎key him off to my presence. And, that was a big no-no.‎

You see, I got in a brawl a while back. Some guy tried to kick my ass. I don’t exactly remember the ‎reason, but I did something to piss him off, or maybe he was just in a rotten mood. I think I’d looked at him ‎wrong, and the little bourgeois bastard couldn’t stand to have someone of my standing looking at him like he ‎deserved to be looked at. But, he’d attacked me first and shoved me to a tree, and kicked the crap out of ‎me there. This was when I just came down with a bit of the flu, which just kept getting worse and worse. ‎Probably because I refused to rest. I just couldn’t rest when I had no where to rest. Yeah, it was harder than ‎one should think, resting when you’re ready to get kicked out of the spot any moment. Let’s just say it didn’t ‎work very well, at all. ‎

I moved a bit closer, aiming to pass the noble, and get something out of his coat in the process, and I ‎got a few feet away, moving near silent, when I made my move. Of course I should’ve notice him stiffen ‎when I got that close, but the truth was I was too tired to care. He knew I was following, and I saw that in his ‎eyes as he wheeled around whamming his elbow into my chest. I gasped, pain shooting through my ribs. ‎He’d hit right where something wrong was going on, and the stuff that had healed I don’t think was healed ‎any longer. I went down, my hand clasped on I don’t know what, but it was whatever was in his pocket at the ‎time. I grunted lightly, grabbing my ribs, swearing wildly. He slammed another kick to my ribs, obviously ‎seeing that was my weak point, and lights exploded behind my eyes, and darkness fell, taking me away from ‎the awful pain.‎
