How the East was Lost

"The smoke cleared completely, and people were left to see what was to become of their homes and their lives. The streets, once filled with bustling marketplaces and bright colors was now populated by worn, dirty human beings shuffling about trying to remember what they should do, or figuring out where they should be. It was like someone upturned the world on its head and then simply left. Many people thought it was the end of the world and found ways to join their departed loved ones. Others left to never be seen or heard from again, presumably to travel the world or die quietly by themselves.
This is the beginning of how the East was lost."
