Brief Author Bio: I'm 25, female, and Australian. I have been reliably informed that I have a tongue like a pair of hedge clippers. By one of my former victims, no less. I've also been compared to Rodney McKay in a foul mood, and for some reason one forum nicknamed me 'Sunshine Bear', presumably because I'm just ever-so-charming. *rolls eyes* I enjoy video games, books, good cop shows (Law and Order, NCIS, that's about it), Cadfael (both books and series), P&P RPGs, sketching silly pictures, lurking on DeviantArt, snuggling with my cat, the new James Bond films (Daniel Craig is the best Bond yet!), anything involving the Umbilical Brothers, the new Star Trek film (Oh wow, such an awesome film, and here was me worried I was gonna hate it), and my much-loved copies of Star Ocean (First Departure and Second Evolution, the others can go jump) and Phantasy Star Portable. I'm also a proud new owner of the Limited Edition of Dissidia. Oooooh, that's some good fun there. I loathe the Inheritance 'trilogy', Stephenie Meyer (Oh how I loathe her and her stupid sparkly vampire non-romance), preppy 'Real World' type shows, anything that involves incredibly stupid people supjecting themselves to stupid conditions (Big Brother, anyone?), most pop music, the obscene price on PS3s, 99.99% of everything politicians say, the fact that we've just gone from nigh-on three months of constant miserable winter rain to summer temperatures without any transition, and the interminable repeats of shows that used to be interesting but are now dull through sheer exposure. |

Synopsis: Grand Symphony (Guns, Spells and Psychotic Pyromancers)
For all that it had a fancy name, the town of Hightower was small, quiet and simple - all that Jean ever wanted out of life, in fact. She was taught to use her tiny Spark of magic usefully, and she was the Journeyman to the local Scribe, a solid position that guaranteed her employment for the rest of her life. Then her father finally got himself killed on campaign, and her entire world got turned upside down...
Lacking the money and experience to run her father's estate, she finds herself in the unenviable position of having to sell her childhood home and return to the city of her birth, Tarant, a city she can barely even remember. While going through his papers in order to wrap up his affairs, she discovers that the grandmother she has long thought dead is not only still alive, but has been searching for her since she was a child.
But her joy at discovering her family is dulled by infighting, politics and magic bias. The Mage's Society is facing pressure from all sides, with technology forcing its way into the realms that had always belonged to magic and numerous bids to have the 'Magic District' moved entirely.
Yet the greatest threat to the strange new society she's joined may come from within, as a long-brewing conflict finally explodes into a terrible inferno...
