Prologue
Corin Matheras stumbled into a scraggly area, rubbing his eyes. Boy, that sun is really bright, he thought. I wonder where I am. He shaded his eyes with a hand and peered around. He noticed a giant slide, gleaming through the layers of dust it had accumulated over the years. He saw a cluster of buildings, a Ferris wheel, and some ticket booths. Turning, he saw a carousel casting shade on a small patch grass. He slowly made his way over to it, and sat down with a grunt.
“Boy.” He said aloud. “I’m really and truly screwed now! I’m in the middle of freakin’ nowhere with only my thoughts to accompany me.”
Corin sat, contemplating the statement. His gaze wandered over to the buildings, partially in shade. I wonder what’s in there. Hmm…
He decided that it was probably a good idea to go and see what was in them, considering the fact that he had no supplies. He sighed and heaved himself up. Might as well get it over with.
Corin walked over to the buildings, and stopped at the one with faded purple and green posters advertising ‘Leo’s Fun House!!! The Biggest House Of Mirrors The World’s Ever Seen!!!’ He had always had had a fascination with mirrors, so this intrigued him.
He walked in, and peered around eagerly. He could make out a couple of mirror-like shapes, but all of the windows had a thick film of dust and the only light came from the shaft coming from the open door. He could see only mirrors stretching out in all directions, mirrors next to mirrors propped on mirrors hung on mirrors…
He thought he saw a mirror made up of smaller mirror fragments-so small as to be called shards-across the room, and as he stepped towards it, he tripped over something small, and fell into darkness…
