Mandy the Fashion Designer:Junior Year Is Here!
an excerpt
Looking over at the empty seat at Skip’s table, Mandy’s heart sank. She realized she was going to have to accept that she was going to have to find another date for the Homecoming Dance.
I’m not as brave as Carolyn is, I don’t think I can ask someone to go out with me. What if they said ’no’? How embarrassing would that be?
Mandy’s thoughts were interrupted by the class bell. Everyone said their goodbyes. Mandy and Carolyn were walking out of the cafeteria when all of a sudden, Mandy felt something under her foot. She tripped and tried to reach out for Carolyn but her BFF was too far out of reach. Her backpack fell to the floor and she dropped like a tree.
Everyone around her was laughing, except for Carolyn who came rushing to her side to help her.
Mandy sat up. How could I have tripped? She looked around her, saw nothing that would make her trip, then she looked up. Suddenly, all eyes were on Mandy and everyone was quiet.
Standing above Mandy was Carmen, with a sneer on her face. “Gee Pauper Mandy, have a bad fall?” Carmen hissed.
Mandy stood up. Here we go again. I’m so glad I wore pants today. “Thanks for your concern, Carmen.” Mandy looked down at Carmen’s feet. She tripped me! I can’t believe her nerve! “I’m fine but you might want to get those hooves clipped. Apparently you need a lot more space.”
