City Of Darkness
an excerpt
The drive home was faster than my normal commute because I stayed later than I usually do, that works for me and against me. For one, I am extremely tired, and for the other, there is no traffic. Even on the highway… Which was very interesting, I looked down at the car radio, and noticed just how late it was, the clock read 11:35 PM.
“Gee, did I really stay that late?” I said to no-one in particular, and continued for a few more miles down the highway, turned onto the onramp and headed down a very, very quiet street. I’m used to this type of thing though. I mean when you stay later than 8:00 almost every day. You get used to it. 30 minutes later I am driving down the street that leads to my house, I drive a couple more yards and pull into my driveway.
“I’m so glad it’s the weekend…” I said while pulling my keys out of the ignition. Something didn’t feel right, like something around here had changed. I started to think about the outbreak in Ecuador but that couldn’t possibly have reached here yet. But I put the thought behind me and continued up the stairs up to the front door. Put the house key into the lock and unlocked the house, everything is fine so far… So I continue to open the door and step onto the landing.
“What the!?” I said as I found some sort of note-thing right at the bottom of the stairs.
“Okay…. So someone is leaving notes in my house… Awkward” I said as I picked it up to look at it.
Hello, Jason, you may think that I’m sort of stalker/Serial Killer or someone wanting to kill you, but trust me, what I’m doing here is in your best interest. You really don’t want to go to Ecuador; it’s more than just a viral outbreak there. You may ask how I know this or who I am but you will know in good time. Just, I’m here to let you know that going to Ecuador is a REALLY bad idea. If you go you will probably die. Please do not disregard this note. I really do want you to live.
