The Backward Spell: Or how we ended up here - Help!
an excerpt
Friday at last. I thought this day was never going to arrive. I jumped out of bed. Today was going to be a great day. Tonight my best friend in the whole world is coming over for a sleep over and tomorrow is my birthday. I love birthdays.

I watched the thistle seed float towards the trees. Then I screamed again; where the tree had been moments before stood a beautiful silver bridge. Old-fashioned lanterns cast an eerie glow on the surface of the bridge, apparently on the other side of the trees night had already fallen. The light from the lanterns was weak and I could only see a little distance beyond the bridge. It was disconcerting to stand in the bright afternoon sunshine and see nothing but night in front of me.
We stood there for a long time, unspeaking. Then without a sound, hands tightly clasped, we walked onto the bridge.
