Her Unexpected Prince
an excerpt
David slid into the booth beside Kyra and put two straws in the shake. They sat there quietly hand in hand eating the burger and sharing the shake. It was one of the best dates Kyra had ever had. She could not believe she was having such a great time much less with the boy of her dreams. She knew there was and age difference but she did not care she loved him. It was love at first sight for Kyra. She did not know how David felt but she was not going to let him go.
Kyra looked up into his eyes. She could see love and compassion unlike that of his stepfather David did not even remind her of the evilness that man held. David looked into her eyes and as he looked into hers. He squeezed her hand gently as if to say I will be there. They sipped the strawberry milkshake together and finished to burger. They scooted closer to each other and after a moment found themselves nose to nose. David took her chin and moved her face even closer, giving her a long kiss on the lips. Kyra’s hands moved to his shoulders while they kissed as his hands moved to her waist.
Kyra smiled she would take that she liked him she had since the day she hand seen him.
After dinner Jenna and Chris went back to their apartment while David and Kyra went to the park and lay in the grass. They watched the sunset and the stars come out hand in hand. Kyra rested her head on David’s chest. David rolled a strand of her hair around his hand. The sun setting here was no where near as romantic as it was in Saranac Lake but it was as good as they could get.
Once the stars where out Kyra turned to David, “When do you go back.”
“I am supposed to go back in the morning but I do not know if I want to go. I am just beginning to enjoy my time here,” David said.
Kyra smiled and hugged him. She knew what he was saying and she was happy to see someone felt that way about her.
“Maybe I will just go back with you then,” Kyra said.
“What about school?” David asked.
“I’ll go back and take a few more classes in high school and then we can move out here together,” Kyra said.
“I can not let you do that Kyra. I mean this is where you need to be. We will just have to wait for each other. It is only a year,” David said walking her back to his car.
Kyra nodded. She would wait for him her entire life. It was odd she had been on dates before but something was different about David. She felt as though she could be herself with him. It did not matter that she was deaf. It did not matter that she liked some pretty girly things. David was the first guy she did not have to act like something with.
