Behind the whitewashed door on the whitewashed wall in the whitewashed hallway in the whitewashed building was a little whitewashed room with a huge window with panes made of plastic. They were plastic so the occupants couldn't break them and do something they might regret.
The man nudged me inside the room and quietly closed the door behind me. I almost wanted to turn back around and just walk out of the place, but I knew that almost every door in the building was locked on the inside. That was so the occupants in the rooms couldn't get out and do something they might regret.
There was a rather young man sitting on the windowsill, his head cocked to one side, smiling and quietly chattering away with himself. There was a girl curled up in the fetal position in the far right corner. There was another girl playing with a little blue lighter, a boy sleeping under pink sheets. Wow, I thought. What a motley crew I've joined.
