Being in this reform school was the first time in her life she had experienced discrimination. She was a minority here. She was afraid all the time...She was surrounded by wise cracking, smart talking, street smart black girls.The streets Angel frequented were nice compared to the poverty these girls lived with. The contempt they felt for her was clear. To them she was a spoiled stupid white girl...This was a time and place way before white kids in the suburbs idolized and imitated their favorite rap artists in speech and dress...this was before MTV. It was the 1970s.
