Thoughts of a Wasp
an excerpt
Amber stretched, yawned, and opened her eyes to her wall of posters and framed pictures. Her bluish-green eyes roamed the room as she slipped on her favorite pair of moccasins, which she used instead of slippers. Blearily, she reached for the brush on her dresser and started to run it through her pitch black hair. Her hair was about the length of the nape of her neck, and the edges were jagged, as if somebody had hacked it off with a pocket knife.
As she finished combing her hair, Amber looked over and saw her goldfish staring at her.
“What are you staring at, Bits? And where’s Kibbles?” Bits looked back at her with a blank expression on its face. Amber smiled.
“Ahh, there you are!” It turned out that Kibbles was behind the mini castle.
“Ugh, I don’t know how you guys can like this stuff. It reeks worse than Mom’s salmon crepes.” Amber muttered as she tossed several fish flakes into the tank. As her fish ate, she rummaged through her dresser drawers for something to wear. She pulled out a black tank top and jeans with rhinestones all over the pockets. From her jewelry box she pulled out a pair of Silver Star earrings and a few silver bangles. She then pulled out her favorite bra.
