UNTITLED ROMANCE
an excerpt
“How do I really know you weren’t a part of this all along?”
She rushed upstairs to grab her small suitcase of belongings that had been packed since the day she found out her marriage was a fraud. She had to flee the property before the police arrived, which by her estimate would be within 10 minutes. He followed her; his long legs bridging the distance from the foyer to the top floor in mere seconds. Frantically she grabbed her purse and the luggage and tried to push past him as he blocked the bedroom door.
“You’re not going anywhere,” he snarled, grabbing her wrist to keep her from escape.
“Let me go!!” she responded. Her eyes darted nervously to the clock ticking down the minutes until the police arrived. “There’s no reason for you to hold me here; I’ve done nothing wrong.”
“If you really are an innocent victim, the police will sort it out,” he replied coldly.
Tears filled her eyes as she looked into his face. “Please, Andrew.”
“I’m done with you,” he answered softly.
Panic filled her lungs; she could barely breathe. She had to get out and put as much space as she could between her and their house. His house. With one last ounce of resolve, she shoved him hard, square in the chest, intending to propel him backwards and force her way through. All she accomplished was knocking him slightly off balance. He righted himself quickly, the only damage done not to him, but to her wrist which had been twisted in the struggle as he clamped tighter in order to keep his grip. His strength had always brought her such pleasure and comfort, yet now it was used to drag her savagely back into the bedroom.
“You’re staying in this room until they arrive.”
He let go of her hand and turned his back to leave.
