The Rebellions Continue

(Prologue)
Running… I had been running. Where was I? The air was freezing, bitter cold. Snow was falling in sheets so thick that no one would be capable of seeing anything beyond an inch from their face. I had no coat, just a t-shirt and ripped jeans. Memory slowly returned along with a dull, growing pain that could not be traced to any specific area of my body. They had been everywhere, seven of them at least. Each of the teens had had the same look in their eyes; the look of murder. They had come from every possible angle at once and before half a second had passed everything had gone black with a surge of pain… and now? Where-and Why? My senses fully returned and pain now racked every nerve, every last inch of my injured body. It was January- only halfway through the year and everything had gone horribly wrong. They were the Covenant. The Covenant made up a large group of only the most ruthless and violent teens. The Covenant were everywhere-they had members in every school no matter how new or old, even in Elementary Schools. They had targeted me, and living by their name, they had launched one, laser-precision strike that had been aimed to kill. But where am I now? As quickly as they had returned, the feeling of my limbs was fading into numb void. Throbbing changed to no feeling at all except frozen pain. The snow was beginning to turn to sleet and then from sleet to hail. A layer of snow five inches thick covered all of my body but my face. I stood with great effort and additional pain, looking down at the ground and brushing snow off. All that lay beneath me was snow, ice, or slush for five feet. Taking a step forward, against the wind and fast-falling hail, my leg sunk knee-deep into a snowdrift. “Why now?” I said, aloud though I only heard it as a muffled echo through the endless onslaught of frozen water. Struggling, I managed to pull myself halfway out before something with bright lights struck me and everything went black and painful for the second time that day.
