Brief Author Bio:

This is my third year participating in (and winning!) NaNo. I first heard about it four years ago at the end of the month, and participated the following year- and every year since then! I have expanded from being a single person NaNoing to a group of three to nearly fifty participants! Capital.Heroine and I administrate a group for our hometown and we're planning some pretty cool stuff for this year, with all these new participants! I'm studying violin (music ed and music performance double major) and hope to minor in French.

Synopsis: Learning to Speak

After retrieving a girl from the wilderness, Adrien, a Hunter, finds that the girl is unable to speak. As they grow closer, Adrien learns from Lola that she was raised in a place where she wasn't allowed to speak- the Herodotus Trial. Through a blend of childish conversations and sign-language, he learns her story. When the time comes for Lola to return, Adrien takes matters into his own hands, and the two go on the run! After confrontations with the Hunters, Adrien and Lola are forced to confront their pursuers, determined to reveal the truth behind the Herodotus Trial.

Excerpt: Learning to Speak

Good night, little birdie, drift off to sleep.
It’s night, little birdie, go to your dreams.
The sun is down and the moon’s high in the sky.
Good night, little birdie, think of me.

Good night, little birdie, sleep now my dear.
It’s night, little birdie, rest your head here.
The sky is dark and the stars are bright.
Good night, little birdie, think of me.

Good night, little birdie, I love you so.
It’s night, little birdie, my heart beats so slow.
Hold my hands in yours, I’ll press a kiss on your cheek.
Good night little birdie, think of me.
