Chapter 2: The Meteorite’s Significance
The first brother was the one who broke the awed silence created by both of them “That’s a big meteorite.” he said as they both surveyed its amazing, colossal, huge, monstrous, sheer enormity. It was bigger than any house they had ever seen, and made a crater so massive, that a lake could be put there. “This is great!” yelled the archaeologist. “A Gideon meteorite right here! This could be the change we’ve been waiting for! Now all we have to is touch the meteorite.” A healthy dollop of skepticism and general disbelief tinged the response to this statement. “Touch the... are you insane?” replied the older brother with one eyebrow raised in disbelief. “It came from space, so probably has all kinds of germs from who-knows where, it’s probably giving us cancer from where we’re standing, it’s giving off roiling clouds of vapor, and you want us to touch it? Please, explain why this is a good idea.” “Well,” the younger brother began hesitantly “I know all about the Gideon meteors. They’re not radioactive, not carcinogenic, they come from a long-dead planet, and the roiling clouds of vapor seem to have stopped, so I’m touching it.” “Besides...” he added “what if this is our chance at that big change and we miss it?”
The older brother sighed “Fine. I’d never be able to get over it if we missed our chance to get super-powers.” The pair approached the meteor and walked to a distance an arm’s length from it. After a moment’s hesitation from both of them, the younger brother asked “On three?” “Sounds perfect.” was the reply. “One, two, three!”
They touched the meteorite. And then...

Chapter 3: Nothing Happened
“Well, I can’t fly, fire lasers from my eyes, and my hands aren’t emitting any sort of ice or strange colors, so I’d say this whole super-powers thing was a bust.” Said the older, and generally more cynical brother.
“Why are you saying that like it’s my fault, the...” and then he stopped. “Do you hear that?” the younger brother inquired. “All I hear is silence.” said the older brother. “Exactly, all the crickets and small birds have stopped making noise. Look, there.” said the younger brother as he pointed to an owl unmoving, wings suspended mid-beat in the air. “So, either we are moving very quickly, or everything else is in a sort of stasis.” the older brother remarked logically. “Since we were the ones just exposed to the mutagenic meteorite, I’d say the latter is more probable.”
“How do you propose we test this theory?” inquired the visibly excited younger brother. “I propose a race. To the other side of Solo City and back.” suggested the older brother. “Ready, set, go!”
And they were off.
