The prince turned around and looked down at Childe, who was obviously still alive as he was already beginning to gain back his consciousness.
"He will not know what happened, exactly," Manasgael said. "But his superiors will see the truth in his eyes, and will have no reason to doubt his dedication ... if they look."
Samuel continued to gaze at the young soldier, and smiled.
"I'm just glad he'll be able to continue to serve," he said. "He is a good young man, worthy of his position."
"Then let us get to the horses," Manasgael said. "Let not the boy see you, so his soul might still take pleasure in his chosen profession."
Samuel turned around and obeyed. He knew the dragoness was right. He knew also that if they did not get out of the castle, and quickly, the two of them would have no chance to see the light of the dawning sun.
