Synopsis: Heir Apparent
Now that William is king, the country seems to be spiralling downwards at an even more rapid rate. Yet heir apparent Alex's attempts to talk to his father fall on deaf ears, which leads Elena to realize that her secret relationship with him is far from the only thing that could cause her problems.
It quickly becomes clear that revolution is inevitable. As freedom becomes a thing of the past, some life altering decisions have to be made. After all, no one can confidently say that he will still be living tomorrow.
Excerpt: Heir Apparent
“Run, Elena, run.”
The three words repeated in my head, so they were all I could hear. The screams and footfalls all around me were drowned out by the sound of his voice in my head.
“Run, Elena, run,” I repeated to myself, urging my legs to move faster than they already were. It was at times like this I wished that I was a man, so I was wearing trousers. But that was no use in thinking about, I told myself, picking up my skirt slightly so I could take longer strides.
The path seemed endless, with the forest never seeming to move closer into my view, always remaining in the distance. I had to keep my eyes focused on my goal. I could not slip up, not now. This was what it all came down to. For me, and for him.
Stumbling, I twisted my ankle and cried out in pain.
Not this. Not now. This was not how I was going to go down, leaving my fate in jeopardy.
That was when I felt the strong hand grasp around my arm and keep me from falling down. “You can do this,” the voice urged, yelling over the sound of the gunshots. “Just run.”
I was in no position to argue, so that was what I did. I just ran.
