Brief Author Bio: I'm a Drama major at Texas Woman's University. We've got a small-but-awesome program, so I'm up at the school most of my waking hours working on shows. And homework. Oh God, the homework. But as busy as I am, and as fun as it is, sometimes I get the wild urge to work on my own projects. I guess I'm just not happy unless I'm working towards a goal, even in my off hours. That's where NaNoWriMo comes in! One month out of every... three or four, I guess, I choose a project that would be INSANE to complete in a month, and I do it. So far I've done them alone or with one or two other friends, but now I've joined the website! I have a username! My NaNo goals include getting better about editing. I think I'm a pretty decent editor, but I'd like to make it a bigger priority. I've got a bunch of manuscript-type stuff lying around and most of it's more or less mess. My November goal this year is actually a music goal, not a writing goal; you should check out my Novel Info page for more details. Oddly enough, NaNo is a lot like theater. You have a deadline, and you start really excited about it, and it's sweet and creative and fun, and you go and you go and you go and then you realize at some point around week three that this is NOT fun, it's hell, but you keep pushing anyway because dammit, That's What We Do, then right at the end you realize again that no, this isn't hell, it's seven flavors of awesome, and then it's over and you try to remember what you did before it started. Life goes in miniature seasons - project-time and normal-time. And it's project-time, baby! |

Synopsis:
Actually, I've gone nuts. Again.
This time I've decided to use the NaNoWriMo format to do something I've never ever ever ever done before. I am now writing music. *shock and awe!*
Okay, so basically what just happened:
My family is a quartet (mom: soprano, dad: tenor, bro: bass, me: alto) so I decided to write us a musical because we've never sung together in anything other than church and I think it would be awesome and we're also all actors, and yeah I know it's weird. We're thinking of teaching the dog to play keyboard or something. So in August I sat down and wrote 108 pages of screenplay, and now I'm sitting down to write music for it.
Let's get this straight: I've NEVER written music before. Except that one time, but it was for biology class so it doesn't count. Having never done this before, there's so much to learn and I'm having to learn it pretty fast. That's cool! At least, I think so. It's also terrifying. Even though I've written a full screenplay and a full novel before using the month-long format, this is the first time I've done anything actually ON the NaNo site. I promise, I promise, one of these years I will actually write a novel in November like all of the other good children. Until then, I'm shamelessly stealing the format and using it for my own projects.
So! I've decided to spend 50 hours in November writing music. Right now I'm at:
5/50. 45 more to go!
