Ellipsis
an excerpt

Adeline Lewis saw things nobody else saw. Heard a voice nobody else heard.
Before the crash, she didn't see much of her angel. She barely knew he existed. But when she awoke and saw her car crushed from an accident that should have killed her, as well as an angel carrying her to safety, things starts to change. (My lame attempt at a plot summary.)

Excerpt

“You’re not weak,” Matthew looked at me, irritation plain on his face. “I’ve done something pitiful. Worse than anything you’ve done. And it can’t be undone,” he said coldly.
His annoyance stunned me for a moment, but I recovered with curiosity.
“You did something… bad?” I tried out the words together. They didn’t sound right. “Aren’t angels supposed to be perfect?”
Matthew laughed darkly.
“I wasn’t always an angel,” he said it so quietly, I wasn’t sure I’d really heard it, or if it was my own thought trying to make sense of things.
“I don’t understand.”
He looked at me, surprised.
I wasn’t supposed to hear that.
He sighed, like there was no point in not telling me now.
“I was human once. Proud and weak, and so hopelessly in love.” Matthew sighed, almost like he was reminiscing. It made him seem… old.
I waited for more. I knew it would help distract me from my own problems.
He didn’t speak.
“How long ago?” I asked, hoping my questions weren’t making him uncomfortable.
“Not long, at all.” His voice was tight.
I sensed that he wanted to drop the subject, but I just had one more inquiry, then it would be over. He wouldn’t mind, would he?
“Who did you love? What was her name?” I tried to hide my hint of a smile.
Matthew lifted his head, at look directly at me. His expression was weary, worn, but his eyes were burning.
“I loved you.”
