Synopsis:
What started as a sane, 3rd person attempt at 50k, and has become an illegible dribble of 1st person attempt at 25k (various reason make it physically impossible for me to do more than 1k/day...:( )
Excerpt:
The year is two thousand twenty nine. The place is a metropolitan city in upstate New York. The problem is babies.
Over population has created a need for world wide birth control. When a woman reaches puberty, the government requires that she go on a one hundred percent effective method of birth control. Only when she is married and is commited to having children may she submit a request for fertility.
While this has substantially decreased over population, only the more intelligent couples are approved for parenthood, leading to intelligent children. However, while this means more scientists and geniuses, and thereby more advanced technology, there is a hole left in society. A hole previously filled with the capable, if less intelligent, members of the community. Doctors, lawyers, astronauts, they all need pharmacists, secretaries, janitors.
Robots have taken over these jobs, but a lack of human qualities has made people feel lonely. No longer can one go to the store and have a light hearted argument with the clerk over the sales price of hot cocoa mix, or flirt with the girl behind the desk at the doctor’s office. It is a quiet, lonely world of geniuses.
