Synopsis: The Nights that Get to You

There is only one person who understands Max well enough to be her best friend: Cameron. His friendship was the greatest gift he could have given her, and along the way, he teaches her about life and what it truly means to live.

But what happens when your second half, your leader, your best friend, is taken from you? Leaving you with a great big mess called living.

Excerpt: The Nights that Get to You

"In the book. Noah used to come out and watch the traffic lights with his dad. He told Ally that when he took her to watch them with him."

"I thought you said it was a movie."

"It was made from a book. How else would a movie be that good?"

Cameron laughed. "The dad wasn't with them, right? That would be weird."

"And amusing. But no, he wasn't." I turned my head and looked at him. "If you're so interested in the movie, why don't you watch it?"

He snorted. "Maybe I will. Upon your recommendation."

I smiled, and watched as the light turned from green, to yellow, and to red.

"Ally said she wanted to be a bird."

"What?"

"Ally said, that after she died, she wanted to be a bird. And Noah said that if she was a bird, then he was a bird."

"Makes sense," Cameron said. "What would you be?"

"Probably a bird. But I'd be more specific. I'd want to be an eagle or a hawk. Beautiful, with a huge wingspan. I could travel for huge distances and only flap my wings three times. And I could go to Europe without having to be stuck in a plane." When Cameron didn't say anything, I said, "what would you be?"

"If you're a bird, I'm a bird," he said, grinning.
