Excerpt:
It was late when Jaegar returned from town. He should have been home by this time. It was dangerous, even to death, to be out this late at night. The wolves had been unusually hostile this year, daring to come out from their dark paths in Tiir Forest. The celebration in the village had been fabulous but Jaegar had not felt good about his wife being home alone. Jaegar let Ta'or know he was going home early and that he would see him in the afternoon on the morrow. That was a few hours ago, now he could see lights of his hous twinkling throught the trees. Suddenly as he rounded the last bend and came in sight of his house he was struck by an aweful force. Snarling resounded in his ear as he fought to escape the wolf's jaws. He knew that if he could only reach his cabin he would be free. "I'm almost there" he thought, "just a few more yards." Jaegar threw himself forward for the last several feet, but his foot caught in a root and he fell heavily. There was snapping at the back of his neck and pain filled his conciousness obliterating everything else until... darkness.
Leona was fixing dinner when she thought she heard something. Perhaps it was her husband. He had told her he might return home early. If it was him he was travelling much too late. She took off her apron and set down the ladle. Jaegar would be glad she had made fresh stew after the long walk home. Leona stepped to the door and looked out. Nobody was in sight. "I swear I heard something" she said to herself as shut the door and went back to her cooking...
