Synopsis: If I Were an Adult...
A local newspaper has an annymous column, but there is a theme every month. That month's theme for children is "If I were an adult..." and "If I could have done one thing differently..." for adults. You find out about the writers' lives by what the say they would do differently. The submissions go in numerical order, so as the writer's get older, their entrees get longer and more complex. Every submission includes the a body and the age. The kids write about how they would treat their children, while the adults' letters start to turn into apologies.
Excerpt: If I Were an Adult...
“This month, we will be doing community service. You will get to work in groups of your choice, but keep in mind; you will be with this group the entire month. You will can run a weekly nonprofit car wash, pick up trash on the weekends, or think of something yourself. But please try to pick something that will make a difference.” Mrs. Hopkins stepped over to her desk as the crumpling of notepaper and whispers started to erupt. “You get five minutes to choose your groups of at least four; on you mark, get set, GO.”
